Good Questions: Table & Chairs from Will & Grace?

10-14-willgrace.jpg

Jenna would like some advice: I HAVE to get the round dining room table and studio exec chairs that are in Will and Grace's apartment, but I can not find anything even remotely close to them. I am on a budget, $700 tops. Can anyone please help??

The Will and Grace set designer did an amazing job, I loved that look. Perfect blend of modern and traditional.

I don't know about the table, but the chairs look like they're just director chairs with slip covers. If they're not, but the whole ensemble is too expensive, that may be a way to cheapen it up (have a crafty friend make the slipcovers if you can't).

Try Googling "Directors Chair Slipcover"

I was just going to post about Custom Coverings. I ordered the their Parsons chairs and slipcovers. I was a bit nervous about ordering furniture online, but they are excellent quality

The chairs looks like they are “Directors Barstools” (shorter than directors chairs)
They are available very cheaply here: http://www.shop.com/Canvas_Seat_and_Back-11372740-18960838-p!.shtml?sourceid=298
and also at pottery barn kids

These are a little longer: http://www.sunset.com/sunset/home/article/0,20633,711437,00.html

For the round table I would try looking at listings for your local craigslist (craigslist.org) or consignment stores to save on some money. Round pedestal dining tables are not uncommon and should be fairly simple to find.

Other examples I have found online:

Pier One imports has inexpensive-yet-hardy directors chairs too.

I would split teh cost about evenly to get decent quality on both ends.

Those round table links above look nothing like the Will and Grace one though! Too traditional.

To me (squinting) the table looks a lot like something you would find at an office supply store, strangely enough. Although I suspect it is better made of course. Something like:
http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p4_Bush-Westfield-Round-Conference-Tables_145809_Business_Supplies_2_10051_FEATURED:SC2:CG39:DP1556
or
http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p4__48234_Business_Supplies_2_10051_SC2:CG39:DP1556:CL142485

crossed with the panel "legs" of this one:

Granted, those are laminate and awfully ugly...

So... maybe try some upscale office furniture stores?

I agree that the chairs look like nothing more than covered directors chairs. You can probably pick up inexpensive chairs from Craigslist for much less than new. Personally, I have the short director's chair slipcovers from Custom Coverings and I really like them - they wash up easily in the machine and look great.
However do note they will require some amount of tailoring to achieve the look here - do expect to do some amount of tailoring to achieve this look.

As for the table, I like the heavy top but I always wondered how easy is was to sit next to those chunky legs when a pedestal would be so much more comfortable in terms of leg room. The heavy chunky top should be relatively easy to find - you just need to find a base you like - I don't think anyone really remembers the exact base on the table (and if they do, isn't that kind of weird?)

the legs of these chairs look nicer than the basic cheapie director's chair, almost like a safari cast-off. There is something a biot more rich about the finish... (and maybe they are round not square legs?)

I'm just spouting off.

I too loved that dinidng set!

biot = bit

dinidng = dining.

I have one eye on the election coverage, sorry!

The chairs are by McGuire. Expensive, but worth the money. They will literally last forever. I am currently recovering some for a client who was given a set that was once owned by her mother. They are about 20 years old.

I agree that the table might be a commercial/office supply piece, but can't figure out who makes it.
