Good Questions: Tea Kettle Whistle Replacement?

12-5-whistel.jpgHello AT,

A replacement tea kettle whistle is harder to find than I thought. I know I have seen a whistle that you just plug into the spout on the teapot. Any ideas?

Thanks, Jonathan

My mom had a Michael Graves Alessi teapot - the 1985 original - that we had long-ago lost the little bird tea kettle whistle. I bought a replacement bird whistle for her online last year - I can't remember where - but Unica Home sells them too: http://www.unicahome.com/p256/alessi/tea-kettle-by-michael-graves-and-alessi.html (Scroll to the bottom - replacement parts are listed under "Item"). If it's the right diameter for your current tea kettle, it could be a pretty replacement!

Call the manufacturer. When the whistle went out on her tea kettle, my boss called the manufacturer. They sent her a whole new tea kettle!

Hi = The image used in this post is the exact kettle that I own. Have had it for the past 12 years. Anyone know the brand/make? I love it, just wondering.

Thanks.

Hi T.P.,

That kettle was designed by Richard Sapper who is originally from Germany. He's famous for also designing the Tizio lamp, the IBM Thinkpad (now Lenovo unfortunately), & a side mirror for Mercedes Benz in the late 50's, early 60's. He's just designed a new cantilevered lamp that uses LED's for illumination that is just beautiful. In addition to other various objects, such as a fabulous cheese grater made by Alessi, a kitchen scale, kitchen timer, & TV for brionvega, & radio. He's a FIRST RATE industrial designer, ranking right alongside Dieter Rams-(Braun), & Jonathan Ives-(Apple Computer). These people are geniuses at what they do. The manufacturer of your kettle is Alessi in Italy. Enjoy it's a classic.

Duncan-

Thank you for providing me with an education. I'm actually going to do a more indepth study on these great industrial designers based on the enthusiasm of your response.

BTW. I just find my kettle online. $219? I would never have guessed, though the quality is amazing. I don't think I'll ever have need to purchase another kettle. Just goes to show, buy quality and you'll own it forever.

Thank you.

I am looking for the black knob for the Alessi tea kettle (with red bird) or the whole lid. I need the older model.

Does anyone have the inside diameter of this little bird whistle where it fits onto the kettle?? It looks like it might fit on mine but it is a different brand. Finding a whisle for any kettle that did'nt come with one is difficult.
