Good Questions: The Source for This Lamp?

4-18- lamp.jpgHello AT,

I'm searching for a pair of these exact lamps; does anyone know the company that makes them?? they are not vintage. I have seen the lamp in various sizes at Calypso Home, but they won't reveal source. I also found one on e-bay, but the size was wrong. I would just Like to order two Direct from the source. The lamp is a Mercury Glass Gourd base with a Reed shade.

Thanks in Advance, Victoria

Dear Victoria,

We have seen these as well, but suspect that you we may have a hard time finding the source, and even if we do, they probably don't sell retail. That said, our first position is always supposed to be optimistic.

We would check out Global Table - great prices - where we think we've see them and don't forget that Crate & Barrel has a great version of this for @ $190, but is may be too big for you.

Anyone else?

The Robert Abbey company makes lamps for several big chain retailers (Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, WSHome, Restoration HW, etc.), and also sells to independent retailers. If I were you I'd email RAbbey customer service.

I saw some a while back made by Orly I think- not sure if the shade was the same. Good luck, they are gorgeous.

I was obsessing over that kind of lamp myself not too long ago! The closest thing I found are made by George Kovacs. Here are the four that are mercury: http://tinyurl.com/koanl

This appears to be the exact lamp you want - do you want it in large? This one is 19.5 inches high.

I bought a pair of these at the store Koo de Kir in Boston a year ago. They still appear to be available on their Web site.

Thanks to everyone regarding the lamp.
it is indeed the same lamp brand lamp as the Koo de Kir lamp. i went back To the store today and tried to find a marking on it. It did say it was made in india. Many of the places I have been looking carry exclusively Chinese lamps.
This might helps some of you Sluthers!

I believe that Butter and Eggs in Tribeca also sells them, but I doubt the cost will be any less than at Calypso. They may be willing to disclose the maker- the sales staff there is very nice.

So is the problem solved? You have a retail source for the lamp, but you don't want to buy it there?

Ordering from the manufacturer is not always possible. They simply don't sell to the public.

I think this is the second or third page that I've looked at so far:
http://tinyurl.com/ncsr8

That's a listing of manufacturers in India with brief descriptions of what they make. When you go to one of the websites, you don't get a nice retail version with a catalog, you get things like this:
http://www.indiamart.com/omenterprises/

Some folks will recognize the swirly wall candle holder as what has been shown in Pottery Barn. Love that trio of silver tealight holders.

Even the form to send to them requires your company name.

So, you're kind of stuck. You can pay the retail price. You can ask for a discount, or hope for a sale, or look for ones on display that are slightly damaged and ask for a discount on those. That will get you the exact lamp you want.

Or search for lookalikes. If you're the kind of person who would always stare at a lookalike and say "But it's not the one I REALLY wanted" don't get it in the first place.

Third solution...mix 'em. Get ONE expensive one that is exactly what you want and one lookalike. It adds interest and form. And just look at the expensive one. Hah!

The place in Atlanta I saw it at was called Delaware River Trading Company, aka DRTC Studio...

Andree, I don't know how you do it, but I invariably benefit from your suggestions. Thanks!

ebrown, you're certainly welcome, even though I don't know what it was that you benefited from as you didn't explain in more that 1,500 words. ;)

I bought this exact lamp a couple years ago up in Boston (for $225-- seems to be cheaper everywhere else). Just this week looking for a partner for it. It's definitely by Roost, but they don't sell to the public. It's on sale for $125 at the Eclectic Home & Garden link. Also found this same one, size for $169 at scarlettalley.com, plus they have the same style in 3 other sizes.

How much of a difference IS THERE on the retail price and the wholseale price on something in this pricepoint to begin with?

Yikes, can the difference be more than your time is worth sourcing the thing out?!

ESPECIALLY if you are so set on this particular/exact lamp...

Hi - I know EXACTLY the lamp you are looking for - it is by Roost Home and the one you show is the medium size, there is also small, large and extra large and you can pick from the reed shade or a white shade. Roost only sells wholesale to companies. The cheapest you can get it on the internet (my company sells it maked up 3x and we don't do online orders)can be found at:
http://www.eclectichomeandgarden.com/meglla.html
I promise you, this IS the exact lamp and this site has is very well priced.

I am looking for a rustic or weathered lamp base . I live in a small town so my search has been limited to the internet with no success. Does anyone know of a web site I could search?
