Good Questions: Tulip Chair Reno?

6-9-chair.jpgHello AT,

I just found 3 of these beautiful Knoll knockoff bucket chairs (Krueger Metal Products) off the street.

They are in very good condition except for the vinyl on the chairs. What I was wondering
is if there is anyone out there who could recommend a good upholster for the vinyl... Also, I was wondering how I can also shine up the fiberglass and the metal tulip base! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Gel Gloss is the gold-standard of fiberglass polishes. I think you can get it pretty much anywhere. It works like a car wax, rub on, let it haze, then buff off.

Great find!

Is the base dull painted metal, or dull/worn-off chrome?

Fiberglass did you say? A friend of our had his aarnio m&m chairs (which are fiberglass) redone at an autobody shop. Car bodies made of fiberglass => your chair of fiberglass => repair possibility? Of course, I think he made friends with one of the guys there first so that his furniture repair request wouldn't seen so strange.

Thanks for al the great suggestions!
The base of the chair is a dull metal. The base is made up of only metal and was never painted, etc...

I am going to go get some of that Gel Gloos that Joey spoke about and try that this weekend. Thanks so much for the suggestions and keep them coming if you know more!

Best, Erik

You might try Novus Plastic Clean & Shine 1, 2 and/or 3 depending on how deep any scratches.

I would definitely recommend Matthew Haly of the Furniture Joint on Avenue B to reupholster the seat for you. He is very reasonable (for an excellent job) and the turnaround time is great. Great find!
