Good Questions: Velvet Folding Chairs?

1-19-folding-chair.jpgHello AT,

I have been searching for a style of chair that I have seen on make over shows, but I've never seen them anywhere else. They look like folding chairs, but are made with nice fabric like velvet or something similar. I am really tring to make the garage look a little nicer. That's where we have a tv with an xbox and the boys go to play.

I just hate having a bunch of different chairs and folding chairs cluttering the garage.

Thank you, Natalie O.

Dear Natalie,

A garage! We are envious. Nevertheless, we put this question out to the crowd because we're not familiar with the chairs you mention. However, we would recommend looking at Home Decorators Collection (pic above) or do something more fun (but not folding, stacking) like these from Ikea, which is especially good with kids.

Anyone else??

i got similar ones from target.com - they have a couple different kinds of wood folding chairs. mine don't have a velvet seat, but it's a soft, synthetic chenille-y type of material.

(first post from a lurker!)

A garage? Hmmmm. Doesn't sound like an apartment to me. (Well, my apartment building has a garage, but I think the other residents would get a little cranky if I set up a TV in there. Or maybe not. I don't think I'm willing to risk the reputation for eccentricity that would surely result.)

What about stacking chairs? Ikea has some quite nice ones these days, and depending on climate, it might be best to have something in a cheerful plastic rather than wood in a garage. There's also Umbra's OH chair (by Karim Rashid) - pretty different from your picture, but perhaps it would tickle your fancy. (see umbra.com)

(There. At least I added something useful to the unadmirable mixture of envy and derision I feel about detached houses.)

Bed Bath & Beyond has several folding chairs with covered padded seats and in several wood finishes. With those 20% off coupons they're always sending it's worth a look. If you currently have mismatched folding chairs you might consider folding chair slipcovers (Target and BBB have them).

i dont know if youre still interested but you could buy these at a store called dine etc. in brooklyn, on new utrecht and 44th st. The phone number is 718-436-3980. They are not cheap (over $100 a chair) but are beautiful, durable, and very practical. You could use them in a dining room they are so nice...
Good luck!
