Good Questions: Vintage or Repro Shade Suggestions?

9-4-vintagelamp.jpgHello AT,

I found this great ceramic lamp on the street the other day and I think it deserves a nice fiberglass shade.

Any suggestions where I can find a good selection of these vintage or reproduction shades in Manhattan?

Thanks! Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

We have a bunch of good ideas for you, some of which are local and some of which are online:

Broome Lampshades - new and custom (good prices)
Just Shades - new and custom (good selection)
Judi's Lampshades (at ABC - fancy)
Galbraith & Paul: Lamps, shades, more... (Contemporary and chic)
Moon Shine Lamp and Shade (Vintage online)

Anyone else?

These guys will hook you up with something fantastic, as I have ordered from them for a few of my vintage finds: http://www.moonshineshades.com/
(although they are out of Texas and not NY), but everything I have ordered has shipped beautifully!

Why turn it into a period piece? I'd buy or have a beautiful silk or card shade made to bring that wonderful base into today's world. Depending on your interior design scheme, it would look great with a vertically-striped drum shade, say cream and brown striped, either boldly striped or more mattress-ticking style. For at least a decade, I've been under the influence of Le Decor Français, a decorating shop on Lexington Avenue between 72nd and 73rd, where sassy patterned handmade shades often are paired with great vintage bases.

Another vote for Moonshine Shades here. I'm a repeat customer of theirs and can't over-rave about their products and service.

I think I recently also saw a post in AT San Francisco about a place there that makes shades similar to Moonshine's -- but their selection looked at little more limited.
