Good Questions: Well Designed Address Labels?

2005_1_3_question mark.jpgHello AT,

Do you know anyplace to order well-designed address labels (the adhesive kind)?

Most of the suppliers are of the cutesy teddy-bear/American Flag genre.

Thanks, Chris

This question could be considered a little off subject, but since we consider the home as THE place for the lost art of personal written correspondence, we put it in. However, we never use stick on labels, so we would have to leave that to someone else.

Instead, we use a rubber stamp that we had made at The Ink Pad in the West Village. Here is what you do: on your computer, design your address in the font and the layout you would like, print it out in the appropriate size and then take it over to the Ink Pad and they'll make you a stamp in one to two weeks (@$25). Lasts forever and the variety of inks you can use is amazing. (Thanks, Chris!) MGR

This is a great idea - as I live in Santa Barbara CA I am checking to see if the design/purchase can be accomplished through the phone/internet/mail. I will post what I find out.

I've had very good results with simonstamp.com--good stamps, very reasonable prices. As far as I remember, it was closer to one week than to two.

You can also get return-address-sized printable labels in places like Staples, so you can design and print your own, which is good if you like to change the designs.

The Ink Pad will make stamps off of camera ready artwork, including something printed off of a computer, that you mail to them.

I love the well designed labels at Iomoi.com

For a more classic, old-fashioned approach (for special letters), try an embosser. About the same cost as a stamp, but I think, a lot more unique.

We make out own labels at home. That way they can be as class-ay as you want them to be (or goofy, or whatever). And when you have a super-short attention span like me, you can change them a lot.

Also - excellent find for iomoi! Very nice stuff.

VistaPrint.com is another choice... they have the flag-and-bunnies stuff, sure, but they also have some decent contemporary designs in labels as well as custom options. You may have to do some digging on their site.

I use the clear avery labels that are about half an inch by an inch and three quarters. I am able to choose any design I want and then print it using a color copier. Simple and pretty.

I prefer to make my own business cards and mailing crapola at home because every time I buy stuff with my info on it, I move or change a number. I just bought a bunch of solid sheets of sticky-backed paper and printed out address labels. Not only did I get the image that I wanted, I can cut the pages on my paper cutter so I can get any size rectangle I want.

Incidentally, you can order custom stamps online. They're a little more expensive, but you can get everything to match. Now if I could just get fancy checks and dazzle my landlord with my design skills.
