Hello AT,
My boyfriend and I live in this cute little 1 bedroom West Village
apartment and we have those overly common not-so-nice hardwood floors. Can anyone recommend a good quality, yet inexpensive company or person that can rejuvenate our sad wood floors. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot, D and K

I recently used Sullivan Flooring Service (212-353-3490) and they were excellent - the floors came up better than I could have expected, everyone I dealt with were professional - a pleasure to deal with. I actually found them on AT - search 'Sullivan'. Good luck
Don't have a good refinisher...but since we are on the topic - how many of you would refinish floors in a rental, at your own cost?
My floors are, and have always been terrible. The finish is pooled in some areas so it looks like a puddle, and non-existent in others.
That being said, I've lived there for seven years, and don't plan on moving anytime soon. If I would have re-finished them when I first moved in, I would have gotten all these years use out of the money I spent!
We recently had our Soho apt. floors redone-- they were original to the building, circa 1890s, and in sad sad shape. We contacted Brewse of Summit Flooring-- I found Brewe on brownstoner. com. He is very professional-- he actually stopped by our apt to give us a quote the very day that we contacted him. And while I had anticipated ripping out the old boards and leveling the floor-- a much bigger job, he 'down-sold' us, and convinced us to keep the original floors. They look awesome, thanks to some sanding, and some water-based poly.

Thanks for the feedback so far. we're renting this apartment and we don't really want to spend a lot of money, are these places reasonable?
Thanks,
D & K
Hi D,
We used Sullivan and paid $750 to have the floors in our studio refinished. This was the minimum amount that they charge - if we were paying per sq ft it would have been cheaper than $750, but I understand that it has to be worth their while to take on smaller jobs. The result was well worth the $750.
Hope thsi helps.
ACE FLOORING
I have recommended Ace Flooring in the past, and I would recommend them again.
Call Ray (718) 460-1643
He did a wonderful job installing our bamboo floors, at a very resoanable price.
Tell him Chris & Holly referred you.
Sullivan floors - I used them to replace my floors and they were great. very reasonable, easy to work with, high quality. No hesitations in reccomending them!
DO NOT USE ACE FLOORING - Ray will take your money and not fulfill the job. This happened to at least 2 people.
Ace flooring is great they did a wonderfull job for me on my floors at a fair price highly rec them
We just got our floors re-redone. The first time our GC used "his guys" and - although we described how we wanted to have the floors look and feel like wood, not a shiny plasticized basketball court - they did a terrible job of glopping a bunch of polyurethane on our beautiful original mahogany inlay parquet floors. Then came our heroes Martin (347) 234-3597 and his partner Carlos. They are real craftsman and ably handled a fairly challenging floor refinishing job (old parquet, very uneven, quite a few board to replace and match etc.) leaving us the floors of our dreams. They are pleasant, professional, considerate, neat, and reasonably priced and I can't recommend them highly enough.
