Hello AT,
I need help in deciding on a good rug! I absolutely love Angela Adams and was wondering if you thought any of her designs would go with my couch and pug.
Thanks, Heather

Dear Heather,
This is going to be a fun thread.
In our opinion your room needs COLOR!, a bit of cleaning up and to get rid of navy blue pillow and other blue details. You have a basically WARM palette in this room, so the accent you need should be a warm color - the yellow to orange to red family, but even a warmer brown (warmen than your couch) will do. Your style also doesn't seem TOO funky, so - with all this in mind - we would go for the Adams Wool Studio Collection Rugs: Sally, Munjoy or MAYBE even the Jackolantern rug in red or warm neutrals. Remember, the more color you add, the more you will wake up this room that has nice shapes in it, but is suffering the beige blahs.
Anyone else?
Looks like Jack-o-lantern is a color, instead of a pattern, actually.
Anyway, I think the munjoy in neutral would be nice.
Munjoy in red would look great, if Heather's willing to say goodbye to the blue accents.
I also like Wyatt in jack o'lantern.
I have a pug too, and sometimes feel like I should just follow her around the living room with a vacumn, she sheds so much...for that reason I might go with munjoy in neutral...more pug-blend friendly, and also would look nice.
How much fun to be getting a new rug...lucky you!
You mean something shedded fur will look good on?
Pugs shed a lot!
A little off topic, but couldn't resist posting a picture of my pug, Harry Potsticker, on a Persian carpet. Click my name!
the pug on a persian is to die for!
I have always believed that the best interior design photo shots are ones that have a furry creature lounging about. It really ties the space together and gives a nice place for the eye to rest.
Zia, I just found your site because I am trying to write a text for my art submissions and read up on the comments for other people. I LOL at "What every well equipped house needs" It's relevant to the pet/carpet issue.(see Zia in Pets category) I hope Harry is feeling fine I did't have time to read everything. My point is for my money, or lack of, I choose art over carpet. I have a very old and decrepit oriental rug my mother bought somewhere for $25. I use it upside down, it looks interesting and pet nails or claws can't hurt it. The pattern hides stains when they happen and accidents clean up with a prompt spray of cleaner and a cover of baking soda removes stains pretty well. Hair easily sweeps or vacumns up. When you see my art submission you'll see my beautiful old lineoleum rug, a gift from a friend who found it in an old store being cleaned out. Every year I love it more. Heather,if you love an Angela Adams rug you should get what gives you the most pleasure, personally, I'd get the most pleasure from a carpet I didn't worry about and use the money to commission a beautiful colorful pug portrait for over your couch, or get another pet so your pug has a friend. My lab loves the cats and they love her. Another thing to consider is painted floorcloth. Any pattern and color is possible.
The "Personal Shopper" section NY Times Home and Garden section today deals with rugs. There are some very nice ones there and you might find something you like and would work well with you pug.
BTW, with such short hair I had no idea pugs shedded so much.
Olga and Kate -- thanks for the comments! And Harry is feeling better. ;-)
Heather, I agree that you should buy whatever makes you happy. The great thing about pets is that they always look cute! Especially if they're pugs ...
Personally, I'm partial to Persian carpets. And the thing about good wool Persian carpets is that they appreciate in value as you walk on them and use them. Reputable dealers will always buy them back--usually for more than you spent initially. The designs osbcure pug hair, but you can also steam clean them--in fact, that's all rug cleaners do when you take them in for cleaning. They're not cheap, but they last forever. (Literally. The one Harry is on was acquired by my gg grandfather in the 1850s!)
Anne: my parents had no idea that pugs shed so much until Chaing Kai-Shek entered their lives, especially since the guide book claimed they were a clean, quiet, non-shedding breed...
I want to thank you for all your great comments and especially to Maxwell for helping me with all of the FAB advice. I love the suggestion of getting a rug with warm colors. I especially love orange and there is one on DWR that I have my eye on!
Zia, your puglet is adorable and how perfect to send in a pic of him on YOUR gorgeous Persian carpet!
What about these? Would they go with pug and couch!?

a pug will go with any rug, just be prepared to have a rug a pug might go on. your dog is very cute.
What doesn't go with a pug?
Heather, I vote the second one. I think your puglet -- who is just as adorable :-) -- would look just FAB sitting on it and giving you that "What?! You're ignoring me?!" look they're so famous for.
I just stumbled on this and had to laugh. I once bought a chair without thinking about matching the pug and the chair.
The burgendy chair looks absolutely great with its matching ottoman. Very contemporary, vey cool. Very covered in fur. Now the ottoman sits outside my office with a dog blanket on it as a raised pug bed. The chair? Hidden in the bedroom next to the bed. My pug's, Chewie, new bed!
After that mistake, I make all furniture and rug decisions based on my pug!
