Hello AT,
About 30 years ago, my grandparents started a small hotel business on
a beach, and that was about the time that my grandmother converted
this Yves St Laurent bed sheet into a fantastic curtain/door. When
they closed the business, I stole this sheet, turned it back into its sheet form, and it's just about in perfect condition....

I know this full size sheet is a special piece, but I have no idea what to do with it. Sell it? Turn it into something? Clean it and actually use it as a sheet?
Thanks, Shawna
Dear Shawna,
You love the pattern, but you don't know what to do with one remaining sheet. Ideally, you'd like to have a new full set of these sheets, right?
It is frustrating to have only a little bit of a great thing or part of a collection.
We would advise 1. looking for more of this set (perhaps someone reading this will have a clue, and 2. keeping the pattern on record by turning it into 2 to 4 pillows (use your fabric on the front and a heavier white linen on the back). Your local tailor can easily transform the fabric to pillow cases and then you'll have the pattern until you either grow tired of it (never!) or figure out how to reproduce it.
Anyone else??
is that a cat?

the simplest method, if you want to use it as a bedsheet, would be to find a solid coordinate.
You can make a really groovy duvet cover very simply (just sew two flat sheets together on three sides and add invisible automatic buttons on the fourth), or just coordinate a fitted sheet and pillowcases to the colors already on the sheet.
You could do so many things with this, but i'm not exactly sure what you want.

you can make it into a through blanket. if you own a sewing machine you can either use batting (or not) and put a contrasting colored sheet on the back and sew them together. if you do this, i would suggest matching the green color. or you can also take it to anyplace that does alterations and i am sure that they can do this for you for less than $20.
that way you have a nice throw blanket for your bed or your couch.

If you want to sell it, I would advise keeping the cat off of it! And definitely out of the pictures, as that will be a deal breaker to many people.
If the fabric is important to you, and has sentimental value, make something that will be long-lasting and a tribute to your grandmother's savvy design.
I agree with Maxwell that pillows might be a nice idea. Or you can even frame a section of it and hang it as art.

MrGreen thinks the best use would be as a cat-bed.

I'm open to any and all ideas. This sheet is very special to me. I always liked it as a kid and was shocked when I found out it's a designer sheet a few weeks ago. Whenever I look at it and try to visualize it as something else my mind just sees it hanging from the ceiling in the old house.
If I could find the matching pieces to it, that would be amazing, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for that one.
Oh, and my mom informed me that the acutal age of the sheet is 37 years.
I like everyoneâs ideas so far. Thanks! I'll definitely keep you posted on what I decide to do.

Well, I don't know what your place looks like, but what popped into my mind was to use the sheet to make an upholstered headboard, and then use that as a jumping off point to give your bedroom a late 60's glam kind of mood......put a trim of green velvet on it, add some tassels in the corner, throw in some angular white furniture and a few 'aged' mirrors.

If you really want to use it as sheets, buy a coordinating solid color bottom and flat sheet; then use this sheet to make pillowcases plus a large top border for the flat sheet. When you make the bed, you can then fold the border over your comforter/blanket and it will look like you have a flat sheet in that pattern! Do be careful about how you sew it though, you don't want a scratchy seam right on top of you while you sleep.

If it's so special to you, just keep it, intact. Personally, looks like an everyday piece of cloth I wouldn't stress over.

No need to kitty-hate. She found a home on that corner for 30 seconds and was a little camera-ham (I did not place her there) while I took the photos. Then the sheet went right back into safe storage where it was before. No damage done.

What about a quilt? If you have some other pieces of clothing or bedding that were your grand mother's, that you can't/won't use, you can make a lap sized patch work quilt. Then it won't be a focal point of a room, but you'll still have all those things that remind you of your grand mother.
also there might be enough to make a table runner and matching place mats. That is assuming that you have those colors in your dining area.

I'd love to see it used to upholster the seats of some Hollywood-Regency/Chinese Chippendale chairs.
And I like Rachel's headboard idea.

Hey Shawna,
what did you end up doing with the sheet in the end?
