Hello AT,
I thrive in light!! But my bedroom doesn't have a lot of it.
Instead of painting white, I would like a very pale gray color to put on my bedroom walls-like the one that is shown in The Paris Apartment store you featured.
Do you know what color that is or any suggestion for a "warm" gray that would be good for northern/little light?
Thanks, Darryle
Darryl,
We don't know the exact color in that pic, but you could certainly find out by calling Claudia Strasser herself at The Paris Apartment. We just gave her a call and left a message. If you get to her before us, let us know the answer.
Scratch that: Claudia just called and the answer is...
Janovic Plaza's "Siberian Snowflake."
She says that she tested hundreds of colors and that this was the winner. It is "the perfect gray."
Thanks, Claudia!
As for surviving in low light, we highly recommend the generous use of lighting fixtures and full-spectrum daylight bulbs. These are a bit more expensive, but they look and feel a lot better in dark, non-sunny apartments (like ours).
Anyone else??
omigawd! I love that color! I wonder if there's and equivalent in Benjamin Moore?
I have become a total AT junkie. First Patrick's apartment, now my sheets, and today you have info regarding light and painting for a darker room, of which my bedroom is. Freaky.....its all here.
Wow, maybe this grey is the solution for my main room? I am looking for a color that will go with the "Polar Ice" blue in my kitchen and go with my exposed brick. I get almost no natural light in my apartment and am looking for a bright but neutral wall color. Right now I have an orangey-pinky white (Cancun Sand from Benjamin Moore) and it looks like washed-out Barbie flesh color.
You will get the best results with a gray that is mixed from a full spectrum of color. I've used Donald Kaufman (http://www.donaldkaufmancolor.com/) paints and had great results. The lighter grays almost read as a white wall in partial shadow because of how much color is reflected, particularly from natural light. Expensive but well worth it.
Farrow and Ball also has some really really pretty greys.
Hi. I painted my apartment a similar color, Behr: Pensive Sky #710e-2.
It's really lovely. It appears silvery, dove gray at night when using indoor lights and more of a pale blue gray during the daytime. Both day & night shades are beautiful. It's close to what is pictured above, but a little cooler. I think a near perfect match for you would be to go 2 shades lighter and a shade warmer---which is Behr's Dew-Drop #700 E-1.
btw...behr indoor paint got top ratings in consumer reports. :)
Re: Behr
If you spring for the most expensive of their line of flat paint, and brush it on instead of rolling, you can one-coat even a fairly dark color.
fwiw
My bedroom is Duron Paris Morn and it is a very pretty light grey in a Northern exposure bedroom. Very calm and lovely.
I love "mouse's back" by Farrow and Ball...it is a very rich grey color...anyone know of a possible Benjamin Moore equivalent?
