Good Questions: What's the Dope on Apt?

4-21--apt.jpgHello AT,

One of your advertising links is apt-ny located in soho nyc. the seating on their website looks pretty modern and sleek .. with a price point comparable to cb2 and eq3. do you have any information on the quality/reputation/comfort of their products?

Thanks, Dave

Dear Dave,

You've totally caught us out! We've been into Apt, liked it and not yet reviewed it.

Apt is hitting the niche of affordable sleeper sofas with the vengeance. While we think the quality is *fine*, the reason to shop here is for inventive design, extra bed ability and prices below $1500. This is not stuff you will hand down to your kids.

We consider this a good rung above Urban Outfitters (the college set) but a rung below DWR (the yuppie set - hey, that's us! We just bought a Sonno mattress from DWR), so you can choose where you fit in.

Anyone else?

I saw apt in Dwell a couple months back and came up from D.C. to check out the Lounge sofa bed. I ended up buying it in red. I was debating between brown or red but they had 3 or 4 other colors stocked as well. The sofa was delivered by the end of the week to DC. That was totally awesome. The guys brought it in and assembled. I love pain free shopping. This replaced my Bo Concept Zen sofa bed which broke after a month and a half . You can totally see a difference in quality with the Lounge sofa . The sofa is so much more comfortable. Zen was too hard. The Danish know how to make furniture. My friend bought a couple of items from the Malibu line and he's loving it too.

Thanks for this question Dave - I had been wondering the same. We are thinking about getting the sofa sleeper pictured above for our TV room/office room/ place for guests to sleep room. I like that this dsign just folds open and doesn't involve and dragging or rolling.

I have been to this store and I really love their stuff! Everything was very comfortable, modern looking and not very expensive. I do not own any of their furniture yet so I really dont know about the quality or durabily, but my friends got a futon and a chair from them and they absolutely love it and reccomended the place to me. So I am planning to buy a sectional from them for my new apartment.

They used to carry the same logo sofa that dwr does, but has now disappeared from website.

Quality seems pretty good...

In person, I found that the sofa's look a bit "cheap" in that impossibly difficult to verbalize sort of way. But hey, that is just me.

i bought the green sofa above in the picture and one of the malibu chests last september. totally love it. delivery was in two days. i live in a studio so this doubles as my bed every night. its pretty comfortable (no metal bars in your back) and it's holding up pretty well. still looks new to me.

WIEDER is a surprise - in spite of its minimalist looks it offers excellent comfort, thanks to high quality filling and wooden slats in the seat. Roomy and comfortable while not taking up too much space. Even more surprising is the ease with which the sofa converts into a double bed.www.wiederusa.com
