I am in desperate need of tech support at home (I have a PC). Truth be told, while I have "started" Fall clearing off of my desk in the livingroom, I have been bogged-down with computer problems which waste a good amount of time and energy (not an excuse, while I'm awaiting the re-booting process, I go thru papers which should never have accumulated in the first place).
I was given the name of a computer wizard by a friend, but have not heard back from them.

We would like to have more resources here, as our "wizard" moved to Connecticut with his wife to enjoy life with trees and grass (Hello.). We are therefore looking for all good references for Apple and PC "wizards" and "wizardesses" in the NY area, as well as good shops that will be HELPFUL. MGR

By the way I know that if you're having computer problems you may not have email, but it's just not the safest thing to post phone numbers on the internet. Hopefully a friend will let you use their working computer to get help.
There's what appears to be some sort of computer doctor office on 88th Street b/t 1st and 2nd (across from the church). Newly opened. I don't remember the name and number, but looks like the type of place that would make a housecall, and it's on the Upper East Side.
I had great luck with the Geek Squad! They just arrived in NYC, through their partnership with Best Buy. You can either leave your computer there at the store, or opt to have an actual Agent come to your home.
My Geek Agent came over, dealt with the problems and left my computer as good as new.
The only issue I had with them was that it took signficiantly longer then the estimate I had been given. (Almost 4hrs. vs. 1 hr. estimate). You don't pay by the hour, so I wasn't that upset about it.

I have a scheduled appointment for tomorrow morning with the Geek Squad from Best Buy (800) 433-5778. So hopefully, the geek they send will be able to fix my problem(s).
FYI - The basic charge for housecalls is $159.00 +tax. TheY accept cash, check, credit cards.

I swear by PC Pitstop. That site has helped me get rid of viruses, spyware and trojans. It has also provided me with links to all the great free protection software on the internet: SpyBot, AdAware, SpyWare Blaster and my Sygate Personal Firewall. If you own a PC I suggest getting all of these. Disable that Windows Firewall from SP2 and get the free Sygagte one.
Also, the PC Pitstop message board is a free resource to post questions about your PC - amazing free resource.

I use Mui Technology for all my IT work. They are located in Chelsea and offer very reasonable prices. Much more affordable then Geek Squad. Geek Squad has screw me over twice with my network.
There was also a time where my bookkeeper left the company and she password locked on all my excel files. Mui Technology easily retrieve the password with no trouble.
