Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Day/Sofa Bed ?

11.29daybed.jpgHello AT,

Hey there, I am looking for a day bed for my guest room along the lines of the Midcentury Modern one carried at Urban Outfitters.

While I really like that daybed, it wouldn't be good for two people sleeping on it. That's a definite requirement for whatever bed, sofa bed, or day bed that goes in the guest room.

I'm leaning towards a day bed or sofa bed, because then the guest room can be used for other things and it's so focused on the bed. I hope you can help! We have guest coming in 3 weeks!! Thanks! Shashi

I have this fabulous one from DWR. It folds out to a king size bed so it fits multiple people. Here's a link. http://dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=11943

I love my Twilight Sleep Sofa too! My husband and I have been literally using it as our bed while doing renovations to our schoolhouse and it's held up great! (and I'm sure it wasn't intended for nightly use either) I like the fact that you can unzip the "slipcovers" and throw them in the wash. I intend to someday sew some funky slipcovers for it, too.
And it looks cool as a sofa.

Lettuce and Bridget, I've had my eye on the Lubi daybed for a while. Do you actually have one at home? We have no CB2 stores (yet) in CA and I was wondering about the fabric and how comfortable it is.

Nicole at Making it Lovely, bought the CB2 for a houseguest recently. You should ask at her blog if it was comfortable, her guest has come and gone.

We just got this last week:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49839894
And it is really comfy when we added a memory foam (from target) to it. Would have loved the lubi or dwr twilight but couldn't get something that low to the floor for my 81 yr old mom that stays with us. This was an inexpensive option until we are ready to do all the research and invest in a sleeper sofa that we love. The cover comes off and is machine washable. The "laxbro" cover is nice and almost has a herringbone design to it. The others are more like chenille and don't look nearly as good.

We've had the ligne rost nomade sofa for 4 years; our guests always comment on how comfy it is:

I think the Troy Sleeper at Crate is a great, classic style. Not sure how comfortable the sleeper is.

The Winston at Room is rocking. I love the big, track arms. The comfort sleepers really are the most comfortable around.

The Natalie looks real sophisticated. I really digging charcoal/greys right now. It's an AU sleeper, so those are extra comfy also.

We just purchased this sofa in white.

We use it our guest room/my husband's office so it had to be an attractive sofa. I put a one of those knock of memory foam-ish pads on it and it's really comfy.

TowerGirl, where did you get that sofa? I really like it! A few questions - is it leather or vinyl? Have you had trouble keeping the white bright? My husband and I want to buy a white leather sofa (with four cats, we're sick of our fabric Ikea Klippan being a hair magnet/scratching post) but not if it starts looking dingy.

We have two cats so I completely understand. It's leather and its holding up really well so far - but its only been 3 weeks. We live in NH and got it at this wonderful store in Manchester called The Chair Gallery.

I will say that most of our furniture is leather and so much nicer to care for with the resident fur-balls. Have you used those cardboard cat-scratch boxes? They totally save our furniture.

we bought the lubi daybed from cb2 and love it. comfortably sleeps two. much more comfortable then our standard no frills wooden futon that got really lumpy and hard with time. the lubi looks great. one complaint- the fabric kind of streched when people sit on it- so you have to smooth it out when it is not in use. we are happy with it so far! we also looked at ones from tinyliving.com and apt, which looked nice too.
good luck.

Thanks TowerGirl! I'm glad it's holding up well so far. We have the cardboard scratch boxes, but our cats like variety I guess! Their claws sound like little machine guns on our couch. It's very disconcerting to wake up in the middle of the night to that sound.

I have a stylish Sofa/Day Bed from Urban Outfitters that I was just going to post on Craig's list. Because my I was just given an even better one.

It's got a mid-century modern look, and will fit 2 sleepers, 3 sitters. I'll sell it for $200; I paid $500 a year and 1/2 ago.

I had been all hot for the Lubi Bed for months, looking at the catalogue, but was waiting for the CB2 store to open to see it first. I was very underwhelmed, sadly (and they must be a bit underwhelmed too, because it's stuck all the way in the back of the store under the Flor tiles). I had hoped the color would be more taupe (when it's more cinnamon toasty), but it just looks plain small. I didn't even bother opening it up.

(a week or so later, I scavenged from the West Village, just as a nice couple was carrying from their apartment to the street, an Ikea sofa bed frame (and the mattress too, it hadn't gone to the street yet, and was in pristine shape so no bed beg comments necessary....). I was skeptical as it felt kinda futon-y which I loathe the concept of, but it's been fabulous so far -- incredibly easy to get it opened and closed, and what I'm really amazed is how comfortable the (firm) mattress is (mattress is Ikea). I just need to figure out a way to dress it during the day where it will look more "finished".

I do love that Design Within Reach one.....I think they must have donated a couple to the fall preview sale at Housing Works/Chelsea because I saw them there (naturally, with SOLD tags on them)......They are very, very sharp....

Oh, PS -- I agree with the comment above that the Lubi bed fabric, it already looked rumply at CB2, and I was there the first morning that CB2 opened. I hope CB2 will go back to the drawing board and reproportion and refabric because the concept is perfect.

Oh, sorry, PPS -- the Ikea frame has also been subjected to other rigorous (cough) uses and it/everyone performed superbly.....(sorry for the trifurcated posts)
