Hello AT,
I just lost an eBay auction for this great chair, and now I really want to find out who makes it and what it is called.
Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a similar lounge chair?...

I considered bidding on this chair too (and its pair) but have no room. Did you try asking the seller? I've seen that seller auction other midcentury stuff.

The Barcelona chair is similar, although much more angular. But it's somewhat similar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona_chair

Looks like a Risom chair in shape, but with cushions.

Didn't we discuss this chair here recently? It looks incredibly familiar.
And yeah, that's a good looking chair...

Looks like a Milo Baughman? There are lots of copies, too.

oops. The above comment is mine, not Maxwell's...

How much did they go for on ebay?

The shape definitely seems drawn from Jens Risom's webbed lounge chairs. I did find this Risom example of the same shape on wood legs, but it is upholstered, not constructed as base and cushions like this one though. http://www.lostcityarts.com/seating/showcase/risomLCH.htm

Those chairs are on eBay all the time so just keep looking. Not worth much though so don't bid very much (but for some reason I have seen people over bidding on these lately).

I bought mine via Craigslist. The guy wanted $150 but it was so filthy he let me have it for $50. After a little spit polish it looks great (although I still have to restain the wood). Very comfy, too. Good luck!

Hi, I just sold two of these chairs on Toronto Craigslist not 3 weeks ago. Every single person that sat in mine found them uncomfortable. I've seen them go on eBay, often.
Mine went for $225 a piece and the buyer said they were going to ditch the vinyl and recover.
Personally, I'd avoid them if I were you.

Oh, and mine also had round head cushions that you could drop behind if you didn't want to use them. VERY large pictures in this folder if you're interested: http://wtfttfg.com/whitechairs/

They are around, I saw one at an estate sale recently. I bet
you'll another one soon, if you keep checking ebay and craigslist.

I have this chair..though the cushion is orange. The chair is incredibly comfortable. The tag on mine is a North Carolina furniture company that I couldn't find much information on, but they're still around. Their website today listed only traditional uninspired styles.

Thanks for all the helpful comments! It's supposed to be Danish modern. The pair on eBay went for $1216! I was only willing to bid $1000 tops for two chairs, but I did find the condition of the chair better than most of seen on eBay.
Thanks for all the help -- I'll keep on lemming on eBay for more posts!

Here's something a bit similar (but likely $$$) http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture_item_detail.php?id=160113
They are a pair of Gibbings chairs

The Walter Knoll Vostra is the upholstered version of the Knoll webbed Risom chair.

Here is something similar sold by Dakota Jackson. You can bet it costs a fortune...
I always thought the shape looked very comfortable, but after the comment by Dobbs I want to sit in them and see what a chair in this style feels like.

I'm pretty certain this is a Carter from Salisbury NC. We found a similar chair in the trash over a year ago. I did some research and posted it up on Flickr.
Your chair is probably post 1958 based on my notes below from my call to Carter a while ago. Their record keeping is poor from this period, but I did get some info from her:
"Called Carter Furniture in Salisbury, NC. Woman who answer was kind enough to walk the floor with this photo and found a 48yr employee who said she remembers this design being discontinued around the time she started in 1958. Thereafter it was a 1 cushion model. Also discovered it was made in their original plant behind some VA Hospital in town. Carter Furniture has no records on this chair. Bummer."

Jzkpr -- thanks for the scoop! If I ever find one at a reasonable price, I'll let AT know. I can't believe you found that in a trash heap!
