Hello AT,
Help! I'm desperate!
Design Within Reach used to sell fabulous hallway tables that screwed into the wall and only had 2 legs.
Does anyone know where I can find one or a cheap knockoff?
Or should I make my own?
Thanks! Iolog

Daer Iolog,
The table you are looking for is called the Hola Y Adios table and DWR still sells it. This is a great table and we've used it many times with clients. For $600, you really can't go wrong.
Anyone have other alternatives?

Ikea sells table legs separately, and there's no end to the kind of top you could use. a few L-brackets underneath to anchor the top to the wall, and you could be golden pretty quickly. There are also numerous places online that sell table legs. This little project will probably also be cheaper than the table itself that you seek.

Curtis - I was thinking the exact same thing. This seems like a perfect Ikea DIY. Get a Lack shelf and two table legs and you will be good to go. Good Luck.

If what your going for is simply a table with a slim fit, check out this at Room & Board:

You can also customize a table at Room and Board to just about any size with several different top options. I did this a few months ago when I needed a small console table.

It was called the "hola y adios" table. I wanted it myself but thought it was too expensive for what it was. Google it though, maybe you can find one on ebay, craigslist, or somewhere like that.

I think I am going to make this my weekend project for a narrow space in my bedroom above baseboard heating. Now, I'm looking for a drawer or cubby unit to use instead of a just a shelf. Any ideas? Thanks for the question Iolog!

I think you can go wrong for $600.

I'm looking for exactly the same thing! But on a budget... that DWR table is nice, but I don't know if it's $600 nice.
Michael, that Room&Board table you suggested looks perfect!
Does anyone know where something I could get something similar in Canada?

ten_eighteen: check out EQ3. Maybe they'll have something closer?

The R&B table is very a very nice alternative, although it's a few inches slimmer.

I say use the Lack shelf as a table top because it has the right hardware to attach it to the wall, but remember you don't have to limit yourself to IKEA legs. There are many companies out there that manufacture table legs, see this list from Google. That way you can customize the look.

The good thing about something mounted onto the wall with 2 legs in front is that, if there is moulding on the floor, you're not wasting space that's the thickness of that molding -- you're smack up against the wall, which is important in many narrow New York apartment entryways.

Olya: Thanks for the EQ3 suggestion... i was there a few days ago, but unfortunately they didn't have any tables that were slim enough. Nice stuff though!

SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?!?!?!?! Land sakes alive! I've had just about enough of DWR.

Yeah, $600 seems steep for that item.
Re: IKEA DIY, Ikea has tons of desktops, shelves and other pieces of wood in the scratch n dent section. If you have access to a saw, you can make a whole bunch of these tables (or shelves, or... or...) for very little money. I took a large one to build a bridge between two desks (it sits on 2 2-drawer filing cabinets), and used the excess wood for a shelf in the bathroom.

Room & Board. you can order tables to size, and choose from a variety of tops and legs. Just cut the back legs off. They look good and the prices are reasonable.

The R&B table is very nice and sturdy, but I hate the top. The first one I bought had big weld discolorations about 1.5 in by 1.5 in on the top. They were very obvious and I thought I just had a bad table, so I had it replaced (R&B customer service rules, btw!) with a table with the same sort of weld marks on the top. I went back to the SoHo R&B store and the floor model had the marks too, but they were not as visible on the floor model. I do really like the table, but you will probably need something to cover the top with.
shani-o: there's also a 40x8 version if the 36x7 is too small.

I am going to IKEA tomorrow to look for an entry table, thanks for the tip about the LACK shell. I'll see if it works for me.

I just found this which looks AMAZING (imho):
http://www.modernlink.com/onelink/ryder/
Only problem is... it lists for $2850 (if i'm reading the price list correctly).
Now i'm thinking... maybe I can source a local millworker in Toronto who can make this for me? :)

I second the DIY recommendations for a hallway (as shown in the drawing).
If you don't want to go that route, and the R&B slim is not to your taste, you might consider the Amery. Amery comes in many sizes and configurations (which can be topped with a variety of materials), including a 7 inch wide version. We have a couple with glass tops of them we use in front of a window

Please AT, stop talking about prices as if "expensive" and "cheap" are absolute concepts, because they are quite relative actually.

living well is cool, and I love a beautiful home, and i occasionally make an extravagant purchase, but half the world lives on less than 900$ a year. I don't know why, but the statement that "For $600, you really can't go wrong." really made me feel awful. $600 is a lot of money to most people.

Calligaris makes a couple different styles of what you are looking for starting around $350. Here is a link to one I think is nice: http://www.allmodern.com/asp/show_detail.asp?sku=GN1273&refid=MP81-GN1273
The prices may not be what you are looking for but it will give you some ideas and maybe you can search craigslist and get lucky.
