Good Questions: Where Can I Find Replacement Tiles?

8-1-tile-question-1.jpg"After the last 'water incident' in my bathroom, the plumbers left me with quite a mess. I have a few areas that have no tiles at all now and would love to fix this up as it looks terrible (and impossible to clean). They don't have to be new, in fact if I could find a place that had old ones it would probably match up better than new ones. Any thoughts? Thanks all"

Wow - those are the same exact tiles I have in in my UWS pre-war apartment bathroom. I'd love to know a source for replacements too...

Not sure how the sizes line up, but oddly enough I found these today before your question.

Might be worth a look.

Daltile and American Olean also make this pinwheel pattern.

I work at a tile and plumbing showroom in Kansas City. It looks like these are actual natural stone, am I right? If they aren't a ceramic and in fact a natural stone.. AKDO makes one I believe...here's the link! http://www.akdo.com/products_detail.asp?pid=2170&catid=111&mcatid=11

Good luck, but you have set yourself a very difficult task. Even if you find the size and shape, it is often difficult to match the color and rich patina of the tiles and grout. The repair can often be as noticeable as the damage. One idea that helps with that is to replace enough of the old so that the repair looks like an intentional design. A stripe or an inner border works well. Random inserts of another color works well too. I hope that makes sense.

I hadn't thought of that, good point. The floor is in such bad shape that truthfully it should all be replaced, but it's a rental and that kind of cosmetic repair won't be happening in my lifetime here, lol. so I'm having a friend who does this kind of work fix it up for me so its not a total eyesore. Right now... it's just concrete filler, no tiles at all in a couple of areas. So anything will be a step up the improvement ladder for me. Nothing comes easy in the city!

They have them at Tile 96 in Jackson Heights on Northern Boulevard. You can look on the website, go to mosaics and then to spiral. These are the tiles you are looking for. Not sure the size will be a match but, good luck. They also stock Subway tiles and Penny tiles for those who are looking to redo that vintage look.

I should mention that I was able to buy one sheet (1 sq ft). So you don't need to fear the website quantity. Actually if you only need a few tiles email me and I can give you what i have.

As others have posted, this tile is still available at places such as Home Depot. Beware, however, the colors may be slightly different. The white is more of a gray and the black is lighter. American Restoration Tile in Arkansas should have the old colors in stock, and they will make any tile to match exactly, including crazing and custom colors.
