I'm finally getting serious about my home office. Where can I find reasonably priced, reasonably attractive desk accessories, like in/out boxes, desk blotters, and file sorters?
I feel like a chump paying $10 for a mesh basket at Staples, but can't afford to spend $50 for a pencil cup at Levenger. So far the best I've seen are the boring but affordable accessories at Restoration Hardware. Are there any better options? Thanks, Josh
We have found this category difficult and some of our best stuff has come from dusty old stationary stores down here in Tribeca. We have also avoided matchy matchy desk sets in favor of unique items and even found items for holding pens and paper. We recommend looking at Mxyplyzyk in the West Village, The Museum of Useful Things, the Bodum Store in Chelsea, Oriac, and Edge Modern for starters. MGR
Anyone Else?

Not sure the pricing will work, but the MoMA design store has great desk accessories, some from Muji, and some other true design classics for the desk. Plus, you're supporting the museum. momastore.org
Check also the GREAT gift shop at the Cooper-Hewitt.
And don't forget to think non-traditionally... I just bought an Alessi toast rack that I plan on using on my desk to keep show tickets and coupons handy...
OH, and maybe try CB2.com, and sometimes redenvelope.com...
For more functional stuff, The Container Store and Hold Everything.
Bodum, on West 14th in the Meatpacking district has some very colorful, cheap and well-designed desk accessories. Highly recommended!
I use a soap dish for paper clips and tacks, and other loose desk miscellanea.
Sam Flax is great too
I second patrick's note about being nontraditional, especially since it seems like desk supplies run kinda bland. Thrift stores always have shelves of odd little containers that have the makings of pencil holders, napkin holders also work for letters, etc.
Try also The Terrence Conran Shop.
Apparently, the MoMA Store (downtown) has opened what it is calling the first US Muji shop (downstairs). If you're not familiar with Muji stuff, it is a Japanese line of desk accessories and supplies that is so UN designed, it is highly designed, if that makes any sense. It will once you see the stuff. The good news too is that it falls below the average pricepoint of the MoMA Store...
IKEA! Take the free shuttle from the Port Authority.
I am not impressed with any of these store Web sites. I am into very modern, also like retro or art-deco. I am looking for a pencil and note paper holder for next to my phone in the kitchen. I want bright red or yellow made out of ABS plastic or anything that looks modern and different. These sites are so boring! I have a piece from the 60's, but it's white and a little scratched up. I'm going to try and paint it red. Any other cool retro/modern stores in NYC?
