Hello AT,
I'm trying to find an affordable (under $1k) white queen-size bed - something sleek, minimalist, and Ian Schrager-esque for a small bedroom. Having a headboard is a must. When I set out on this quest, I figured it would be easy enough...but so far I've only found a few promising leads (CB2, Bo Concept). Any help apartmenttherapy could provide would be much appreciated!
Thanks, David

Lordy Lou, there's always Ikea.
I got the Allerund last year -- well, it was a long word beginning with an "A", anyway -- and recovered the backboard since the color is dull as dishwater.
We love it.
There's padding around all sides so you get significantly more acreage out of a queen-sized bed. It has arms that go down like airplane seats, but we never use them.
It was, however, a BITCH to assemble.
I'm not up on my designers so I don't know exactly what style you want, but my bed is from EQ3 and is chrome and lacquer white. It's very sterile, VERY modern, and like the previous poster, it was a total pain in the ass to assemble, taking 2 days and a couple of phone calls to the store. In the end I have a totally original bed, so I guess it was worth it.
Last time I went to the store (a month ago) it was on sale for a really cheap $250.

If possibly considering only a headboard, www.linensource.com has a good price on upholstered models.

If you wanted to go really minimal, you could consider the Blu Dot's Hot Rod bed in white. Queen-sized beds are priced at $649. A lot more spartan-looking than what you have pictured, but a really sleek, clean look.
Thanks to all who responded. I've been researching this like crazy and I've decided on the Alu bed from DWR (yes, I've tested it out in person a couple of times and love the design).
It was between the Alu and this bed from Bo Concept -

At the end of the day, I didn't love the Bo Concept headboard. And I liked the Alu bed's color - it's not pure white, so I think it'd be more versitle and adaptable. And I already have stuff in my bedroom from DWR, the color of which (gray-ish) will match the color of the Alu bed.
I'm not going with the Sonna Prima mattress that DWR sells. Instead, I'm going with a Simmons mattress (maybe the one that Simmons makes for W Hotel). Unfortunately, because the headboard is so low on the Alu, I won't be able to use a boxspring. I do like my beds somewhat high up, but I suppose I'll adapt.
So, in a few weeks I'll have a Queen Alu bed (w/orange headboard), a Simmons mattress, and Area bedding (Rain in blue).
The bureau that DWR has that matches well with the Alu

is a bit pricey, so I'm going to check out Canal Furniture to see if they have anything on point.
Thanks again, and feel free to chime in with thoughts (especially regarding Simmons mattresses).
Hi David,
I'm wondering if you have decided on a Simmons mattress yet. I'm also trying to find one similar to the W bed and i'm curious which model you ended up with.
Thanks,
Chad
Chad,
I was all set to go with the Simmons beauty sleep pillow top and then I caved and went with the sonna prima mattress and the grey headboard that goes along with the Alu bed. I've had the Sonna Prima for 2 weeks and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It's not at all what I'm used to. I'm contemplating returning it and going with the Simmons. I think I have another 2 weeks to decide....
Hello:
We are trying to find photos or suggestions about WALL-length mounted headboards to add a sense of length and add tangibly-felt space to our small bedroom. Please help???
Thanks. DW
