Good Questions: Where's This Chair From?

8-26-chair.jpgHello AT,

I picked this great chair up at a thirft store recently, but have no idea who made it or what era it might be from. It's really a handsome piece. Can you or your readers help? It has no specific identification beneath it at all.

Thanks, Jason

It's a beautiful piece! Any makers mark? I'll take perhaps an obvious stab and say Danish, mid century. I don't think it's an american piece for sure.

vinyl or leather?

I picked it up for $50, but you really have to get out of the city to find a bargain like that. The canopy part of the seat is made from leather. There are no ID marks or brand stamps anywhere on it.

That chair is stylish and it looks incredibly comfortable too. Nice find!

It's a really nice chair and I like it a lot but it seems a little too chunky to be danish -the proportions look a little off and the joinery of the rear legs isn't typical danish at all. I'd say it might be an american knock-off but still mid-century.

My guess is Brazilian. But I have no real knowledge with which to back that up, besides a passing resemblance to the brazilian collection at dwi.

I did see a similar chair - a rocking version - that was made by Charlton furniture Mass.

Nice score! My first thought was Brazilian, too. That's because I saw a similar chair in a vintage collective years ago, and the seller claimed it was Brazilian.
