Good Questions: Who Can Identify This Chair?

11.6chair.jpgHello AT,

Hi, I was wondering if you recognize this chair as anything significant?

One of our users posted this question and I thought you guys might have an answer: "They have a chrome frame, with a brown canvas :sling like" support for 3 separate leather cushions...

It also has wrap around leather pads on the arms. They are very close to the floor, and my best guess would be Danish Modern, or even an Eames style".

Thanks! Amanie

These came from the planet Fugly, located in the galaxy of Monstrosity.

Seriously though, I don't see any lines of a good pedigree here.

Looks like a Sears special to me. I'm not seeing anything Eamesian or Danish mod about them.

Not Sears -- office furniture. I'm thinking late 1970s or very early 1980s. The original buyer thought of himself as hip and did the office in earth tones, maybe with some exposed brick and that glass head from Pier 1. I'm torn on whether he was a psychiatrist or an insurance agent.

That original owner also convinced himself there were Eames-like lines to those chairs... but just because people share a delusion, that doesn't make it true.
