Hello AT,
I've found a Ghost sofa and chair by Paola Navone online that I'd
love to try out. Problem is, I live in San Francisco and the items
in question are only available at the Conran Shop in Manhattan. Are
there any willing NYC backsides to go to the store and snuggle in?...

I would gladly do this, since the store is on my way home.
However, I'm only 5-3 and couldn't really speak to the comfort of someone a foot taller than I am!
Let me know if you still need an opinion.
I am 6'4" and heading past the store shortly.
No one ever has to twist my arm to go to Conran's!
Hi Marie and Doug,
Thanks for responding! If you both went, you'd make the perfect surrogate couple since I'm about Marie's height.
Can't wait to hear!
I don't know that this helps, but Montauk Sofa has some pieces that are very similar to the one pictured and they have a store in San Francisco. Their couches are pretty expensive, but they are built really well (I have one) and you can upholster with a huge number of fabrics, plus they make custom slip and pillow covers that you can buy anytime. My couch is dark taupe microfiber, but I got a bit bored with that last spring and got an entire set of slipcovers in an apple green. It may be worth looking there if you haven't yet. Good luck!
Thanks Alli, that's a great idea. Tracy
I did go after work. They had the chair and the four seat sofa on display. I tried the sofa first. It was very long (86"), with a firm seat cushion. The pillows were comfortable, and the top of the arm hit just above my elbow.
The chair felt very different. It was much deeper front to back, and the softer seat was a few inches lower. The top of the arm hit me just under my underarm. Both the chair and the sofa were comfortable. As a tall person, I particularly liked the length of the sofa. (I like to lie on sofas.)
The one thing that concerned me was the arms. Although all of the arms were very firm and felt sturdy, I couldn't help feeling that it would either loosen due to lateral movement, or wouldn't be comfortable to rest my head against if I were laying down.
The seams of the slipcover were inverted, and the sofa and chair were white, so the seams did show dirt. But depending on the color and material, this might not be a concern.
If you have any other specific questions, I'd be glad to reply. I'd say the arms were the main sticking point from my perspective. Of course, depending on how you'd use the sofa and chair, it may be less of a concern for you.
Thanks, Doug! Your comments are really useful, you answer questions I hadn't even thought of. I think the search is still on. I really appreciate that you took the time to do this. All the best, Tracy
Personally I think it is fabulous that you convinced a New Yorker or two to test drive a chair for you! Despite that I would not recommend buying a chair that you cannot actually sit in yourself. I have been there and it is not something I would do again!
Glad to be of help!
Hi Tracy, Being the 5'1" Conran Shop Store Manager I am, of course biased and rather short (!) to test drive the chair for a 6'4" person, but, I have to say I believe people of all heights and sizes would find this chair roomy and comfortable. I think you may have stumbled upon a great chair to fit into the interior style you describe. Please call me at the store if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help! Best regards, Lesley Mazda.
