Good Questions: Why Is UK IKEA Better?

3-29-ikea.jpgHello AT,

Why does the UK IKEA site have more exciting furniture than we do on the IKEA-USA site? It's infuriating. Look at this great bent plywood dog bed, AND this amazing chair.

SIGH!

Here's another really good lounge chair not available on the US site. I guess we may just have to wait until the "new" things are updated. They don't have this cute dog bed, though...

And here's a great tip on a space-saving dog food container, in case it's useful to put somewhere. It can be used as a free feeder, too! Small and large available only on these sites yet: carealotpets.com, shopgetorganized.com.

Cheers, Shiba

I'd add The Pier (UK's Pier 1) to that question.

You're evil. I want all those Ikea items, and could afford them if they were here. Grrr... And that's exactly the dog food solution I've been looking for, but way too small, even the large! Grr...

Those chairs would cost between $400-$500. Maybe Ikea knows that its US customers would not spend that.

Why not? Ikea US charges upwards of 1000$ for sofas. Some of their beds and storage solutions arent that cheap either.

I dunno. The Pier and Pier 1 often use similar numbers to price the same item. I could buy a mirror here fro $75 or go over there and spend 72 GBP (about $150.00). Can't understand that logic at all.

Jeez guys give us a break. Ikea tends to try stuff out in some countries before introducing them to all of the Ikea world. Check us out starting in a couple weeks through August, and you will have your chance to drool over plenty of furniture. And, come down to Ikea Conshohocken, PA (near Philly) to see and buy the Stockholm range right now.

such a rush you New Yorkers.... :)

Isn't the answer obvious? Ikea wants to sell products, and Americans are style-challenged dolts who want to live in faux-farmhouse McMansions.

They want a look that injects emotional warmth into the isolated, soul-numbing suburban experience. The problem is their idea of emotional warmth is an uber-dorky mix of Tara and Little House on the Prairie.

The shelter magazines and tv shows highlight high-end design, but that has virtually no connection with the way most people live.

And I'm not talking about people's income... the dentists and trial lawyers of middle America are some of the worst offenders, because they can afford to buy more ugly stuff.

I've loved the Stockholm line ever since I saw it on an Ikea Paris website a year or so ago (I was practising my French. Really. I'm not Ikea obsessed). I'm glad it's finally hitting North America.
