Hello AT,
I have a window cover dilemma -- my living room window is two sets of french doors with two operable transoms above. The doors open into the room, as do the transoms. There is a small baseboard radiator centered below the window. We need to be able to keep windows open in the summer, as well as block the western light in mid-afternoon. Drapes would hamper that. Any thoughts?
Secondly, I'm looking for someone to make a zinc or galvanized steel top for an old table base. Any recommendations?
Thanks so much, Amy
Amy, we, too, would like to know where to get zinc tabletops made! We got a really nice email from our connection at The Times letting us know that the tables we saw at Giorgione were probably zinc (not nickel) and we're coveting them already.
As for window coverings, we may be mistaken, but it seems that your only option is a blind or shade. These can be attached in a number of ways. Our favorite sheer light blocking shade right now is called a Solar Shade and you can get see them and get them made/installed at Blinds and Beyond on 13th street. MGR
I was also wondering if the Giorgione tables were zinc, because those old French bars tend to have tops made of zinc, and they mellow really nicely. It did get me wondering about table tops and whether zinc is more or less expensive than stainless.
Zinc Tops and Shady Bottoms...
I think I've been to that bar.
But seriously... I would be surprised if those Giorgione tops are zinc, since I've never seen zinc with that much of a sheen. But ya never know.
And window-wise, head to smithandnoble.com, if not to purchase, to check out all the options of shades, roller blinds and mounting options. (just had to get that last one in there, to end on the same innuendo I came in on. so to speak.)
