Dear AT,
We're *this* close to beginning our kitchen renovation.
We've gone with wenge cabinets on the bottom, Caesarstone blizzard for countertops, stainless appliances, a light grey "driftwood" porcelain tile for the floor, and glass cabinets for the uppers.
But we're stumped as far as the backsplash goes -- I was thinking adding some color -- like a bright green or blue would work, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Thanks! Meghan

go with color! i think a nice green would be really stunning. either a minty green or olivey green would look great... or even chartreuse.
over if you go more subtle, a nice chalky blue would go nicely with the gray tones.

I'd choose red glass mosaic tiles, or almost any shape/color from Heath.

Heath IS an awesome resource. One thing i love is using back-painted glass for backsplashes. Super easy to clean (no grout!), and you are able to do any color you please. It gives the color a nice soft presence. Just get a bid from a glass company, and they can cut it to fit, allowing for receps, etc. Perfect!

NO! Do NOT add color via backsplash!! Everything you have is minimalist modern & all about MATERIAL, not color. Adding color will make it look cheap and/or cheesy. I recommend a neutral backsplash --- I have soft soft spot for simple white glossy tiles but those only look good if you have an excellent tile person, in which case it would look FANTASTIC!!

Your kitchen sounds almost exactly like mine.... we went with a very light grey stacked subway tile from here:

i disagree... color is great! and second the suggestion of back-painted glass!

we just redid our kitchen (maple cabinets, caesarstone blizzard countertop, stainless appliances, gray cement floor)... and "fresh herb" green glass back splash. It's absolutely beautiful, fresh, inspiring, soothing... Colour is inspiring! Don't hesitate to liven it up!

We removed plaster and went with exposed brick.

Styles and tastes change. Go with something neutral. Get color from your accessories.

Thanks so much! Great comments. And the white -- that hadn't even occurred to me. Hmmmm...
Re: the glasskote-like suggestion, I love that and seriously considered it, but I wondered if it would clash with the glass cabinets.

i would (and will) do back painted glass in a ocean blue, or to be more subtle, how about neutral to match the counter top. Back painted glass has been around for years (I've used it alot in corporate interiors). It's awesome to clean and give a very fresh, contemporary look.

I have a very similar kitchen... and as a backsplash i used the same ceasarstone that was used on the countertop, it look great...
