NY Good Questions: NYC Reupholsterer?

3.14chair.jpgHello AT,

Help! I need to get this chair reupholstered, but I don't know where to go.

Where in Manhattan can I get my antique corner chair reupholstered, at a reasonable price?

Thanks! Bettina

I used Galeano's out in Queens and was very happy with their work. You can email them pictures for an estimate. Also, they will pick up & deliver. 718-396-9816.

Let me know if you want to see my before & after pics.

I used Fabrica in Prospect Heights (Vanderbilt & St. Marks) to recover some chairs I got off of CL. I was very pleased and the price was reasonable (don't know about pick up/delivery b/c we live down the street). Demi is the owner's name and she is a gem. I can send before & after pics also.

"Reasonable price" is too vague a term.

Does anyone know of a good upholsterer in NJ?

Thanks so much!

Montclair Julie! I live in Montclair, too; try the place on Walnut-- next door to Paws. I used them once on a little mid-century sofa I bought at a yard sale for $5. They did a fine job-- and it only cost $300. I can send photos, if you'd like. I have a pair of chairs I'm going to lug over there in the next few days...

Here's the before & after on my chairs...done by Galiano's in Sunnyside/Queens. I paid about $350 per chair and I supplied the fabric. Their zipper-work is God-like.

I should have also mentioned, they did a lot of structural work and had to replace all the cushions (total nasty hard/dry rot) on my Ebay-specials.

Re: "Their zipper-work is God-like."

I dated a guy like that once.

I recently had Atlantis Found in Red Hook "upholster" a chaise because they quoted a very low price. the woman there is very nice but she didn't really reupholster the piece; she made basically a slipcover with some yucky synthetic stuffing with ruined the shape.

I just got a reasonable quote from Easternside Parkway Reupholstery to redo a few chairs. I read good feedback on them on several blog sites.

Now I need help in finding fabric! Any suggestions for upholstery stores in NYC? I'm looking for David Hicks style fabric. I don't have a decorator so I'm looking for a place open to the public!

Thank you.
