NY Good Questions: Similar and Less Expensive Drawer Unit?

2.19storage.jpgHello AT,

I totally fell in love with the drawer unit from Sonrisa's field desk, but not so much with its stratospheric price tag.

I even inquired as to whether they sell the drawer unit alone, without the actual "desk" (they don't.)

Does anyone know of a more affordable alternative that has similar looks (the cute rounded corners, cool aluminum, shmexy industrial detailing)?

Thanks! Clarissa

IKEA has a similar one. I have it at my office desk.

If you're interested in keeping with the industrial, reused/refurbished style of things, consider tracking down a used airline service cart. Apparently a airline scrapyard in Adelanto, CA called Aviation Warehouse deals in them with some regularity, and I think that's where the flickr user (and SF-AT house tour participant) Telestar Logistics got theirs.

In case you can't guess, I love those things and wish there were places on the east coast to find them.

Ikea has a similar one. It's silver but doesn't have as many industrial features of the one that you pictured. It's called "Helmer". Not sure if it has the same dimensions, but I thought it was cute, and the price was pretty cheap too.

Sonrisa has some pretty cool industrial pieces (see store link below)...I don't see anything on their web site that matches your picture, but perhaps you could email the pictures to the store owner and ask him if he has anthing like what you're looking for....Just a thought.

The S68 Storage Pod at Fusion Furniture Gallery looks very similar to this.

Wow - that's it exactly. Totally cool. I love how stripping the original paint off of an object automatically quadruples the price -- oh, and how straight military surplus is worth $600 to begin with. On the other hand, if I could sell it for that, I would too.
