I'm going to be moving into a studio apartment soon and need an inexpensive desk with lots of storage. I am a college student so I mean it when I say inexpensive.

Although it doesn't have a lot of storage I love this desk.
I would pair it with a filing cabinet or Lack shelves from Ikea to deal with storage.

craigslist--also, a friend of mine found a beautiful old cabinet on the street and bought a filing cabinet and then stained a nice plywood and laid it over the top--tons of storage, very cheap, and nice to look at...

jennjenn - a pair of filing cabinets is the option I've used often. You can buy inexpensive low-grade filing cabinets many places or find a used office furniture store and get a couple of heavy duty ones for the same price.
For the desk top you can get a Vika table top from IKEA or for even less, a door blank from your local hardware store (Home Depot, etc). You can stain the door blank the color of your choosing.
I want to turn an old chair into a rocking chair...anyone know where I could get parts?

Hey guys... I am looking for a modern inexpensive floor lamp - any lamp/lighting store suggestions in NYC besides the obvious chain stores - CB2, West Elm, C&B, DWR?

Does anyone have any recommendations for trees that grow well in large containers (e.g. a half barrel)? I'd like to put a smallish tree (max. around 10 ft.) in the little area where our trashcans are, but we can't plant anything directly into the ground as it's a cemented area. Ideally, I'd like to do a Magnolia but I don't know how happy it would be in a container. Anyone have any experience with this or any tips in general? Thanks for your help!

Harley, didn't know if this would be relevant but a week or 2 ago there was post on here about growing a lemon tree in a container. Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but I think a lemon tree is an interesting concept in general.

I'm making my first attempt at growing a dwarf meyer lemon in my apartment, it's actually starting to sprout lemons now.
If you don't mind bringing the plant inside during the winter then I think it would be a great idea. How much sun light does the area you are considering get everyday?

Forgot to add, the best thing about bringing lemon trees inside during the winter is that the blossoms smell terrific.
