apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Question Answered: Saved a Rental Bedroom!

Patrick sent in this bedroom project he completed for his clients, Tina & Stefan: This project actually started on ApartmentTherapy as a Good Question: Save This Room, Save My Marriage? Tina tracked me down about a year later via my MySpace page, and hired me to do the bedroom, and the rest of the apartment. It's a rental, so many of the usual restrictions applied...

The pale blue-green walls change color with the changes in light. The paint is Benjamin Moore Aura "Tranquility".

Love the Morrocan-esque tiled bedding! It's on sale but it's still WAY out of my budget, sigh.

The magic of decorating is so intoxicating. I'm so glad you didn't get rid of that empire style dresser with the mirror. It's stunning when polished and given life by adding some decorative touches to the room.

Correct hue of paint in matte is perfect!
Nice bedding.
Just a few accessories makes a really blah nothing room, into an oasis of beauty

Well done!

Lovely and serene. But way too many pillows on the bed.

healthyhome--

One bedside lamp was still on order when these shots were taken. Originally, in an earlier floorplan (with the bed on the other wall) we had two wall-mounted pharmacy-style lamps planned, but the bed ended up on this wall, where that weird wall bump-out made wall-mounting them not quite possible.

Another thing we did to freshen the dressers was to remove and replate the drawer knobs to nickel (from their original brass).

That also led to replacing all closet door pulls with nickel pulls similar in shape to those on the dressers... a great fix in a rental apartment.

Beautiful colors on the bed, but I'm with Lori on the number of pillows. Two too many for me.

I've coveted that jade disc for Wisteria before.

I love the artwork. This is a canvas transfer piece, right? Does it look like a painting in real life? I am hesitant to invest in something I haven't seen as it is really difficult to tell the quality.... any advice?

Take the plunge!

Art.com, Allposters.com, Overstock and Ballarddesigns are all sources I regularly mine for what I call "spaceholder art"... a step above the usual posters, but not quite gallery-caliber...

All these places have great return policies, so try something in your home and send it back if you don't like it.

But yes, look for giclees, and/or canvas transfers for the closest to a gallery look.

If going with a non-canvas print, order unframed then frame it yourself. Even a repro print can look amazing with good framing... double- or 8-ply wide mats, simple frame.

Good luck!
