Q - We could use some help! After months of searching for a dining table we settled on The Rivet Table from CB2. Our problem is that we are at a loss for chairs to go with it. I know it's been shown with several different white chairs online and in the catalog, but we didn't want anymore white in our apartment. We also didn't really want to mix it with anything overly modern — ideally, we'd like to have some kind of contrast. We were hoping some of the amazing readers here would have some suggestions!
Also, we considered maybe mixing another metal chair with it...possibly Emeco Chairs or with the Marais chairs from DWR. Any opinions?
Editor - If you are looking for contrast, stay away from metal! I think you'd be surprised at how "cold" your very industrial table would look with industrial modern chairs. Avoiding white, I would look towards wood chairs with a natural stain. I've pulled some good options in a range of price points in the final image:
• Matthew Hilton's Profile Chair - $390 each at DWR
• STOCKHOLM Chair - $100 each at IKEA
• OLLE Chair - $35 each at IKEA
• Oval Back Dining Chair in acorn from West Elm - $160 each (discounts when you buy multiples)
Who else has suggestions?
I agree something natural to ensure it doesn't feel too industrial-cold. Even mix-matched vintage wood chairs in beaten finishes would look great...though I have no idea what your style is! I'd stay away from black as it matches the tone of the table too closely. Best!

HA! I was *just* going to link the oval back chairs from West Elm... but they're mentioned above! I think they'd have a great form against the parsons shape.

i think vintage wooden chairs whether they're MCM, Danish Teak, colonial style, french antique, etc. would provide a great contrast to the metal & industrial style of the table.

I recently ordered chairs from here: http://woodfurnituremarket.com/chairs.html
I haven't received mine yet, so I can't comment on the quality, but they have several styles and will even paint them any color you want.

I like the West Elm chairs, too. They're sleek enough to be with the table, but the wood really warms up the look. I wouldn't even mind seeing 4 of those and then 2 Parsons chairs at the ends.

i like the idea of the marais chair in a warm orange or red....

I like the idea of wooden chairs for this table. However, I also think that it would look beautiful with the Ghost Chair from Kartell (maybe just because I love those chairs). If they are too modern or too pricey (and like me you just don't have the heart to buy a knock-off), then maybe go with some victorian-eque chairs from craigslist that you paint an accent color that matches with the rest of your decor...

I think some old school Library chairs would look great.

My first thought was wood, to warm up and contrast the industrial look

I'd suggest black windsor-type chairs - for the contrast and warmth of wood and curves. Or, mix different styles of wood chairs.

check out http://www.sitandreadfurniture.blogspot.com. they have tons of affordable dining sets that would go great with this table. Maybe those Thonets? Or the Goodforms?

how about these Paul McCobbs (http://sitandreadfurniture.blogspot.com/2009/07/paul-mccobb-planner-group-chairs.html) or these goodform chairs(http://sitandreadfurniture.blogspot.com/2009/07/1940s-goodform-aluminum-industrial.html)?

This was my question, and all of your responses have been so helpful! Some of the chairs suggested we considered, but actually hearing all of your opinions has been great. We're on our second set of chairs ordered that have left us really disappointed. I can't tell you how many times we've stood and stared at the table deciding where to go next. We've poured over magazines and this site (of course) hoping that something would hit us...so we're excited to about all the suggestions... keep them coming and as soon as we make a decision and get our chairs we"ll make sure to let everyone know.

This chair, without arms:

I know their colors or my monitor are off, way off, because the navy leather looks green. LOL! But I think the Bomber Brown Leather seat (if it looks like an aged, well-worn Bomber jacket) would be great.
Their black stain ends up looking kind of gray (on my monitor) which might be nice too. Giving the chairs kind of a rugged look, especially if combined with the the Bomber Brown leather.
You could spend all day looking at their fabric and leather and stains and paints. But that allows for a more custom look for your new table.
The only downside is they do not have an interactive site, where you can choose a chair and then change the finish or wood type or material/leather for the seat.
I like the horizontal lines of the chair. It has a modern appearance without screaming MODERN or any particular designer or store.
Handmade. Solid wood. Made to order. But not at a custom furniture price. Start at $239 each.

On the Thonet website their famous 'bistro chairs' (don't know the exact name) are combined with a table in steel. I think it looks stunning. You can purchase them for a fair price on e-bay. Hope this link works:

Ethan Allen has this chippendale chair: http://www.ethanallen.com/product?productId=1186&categoryId=8025 that would look great with the table. They are a bit pricey for me, but you could locate gently used chippendale chairs for much less and paint them black. I think seeing the upholstered seats through the tabletop would look great and soften the hard lines of the table.

i liked the suggestion to go with the kartell chairs but if u bought some louis xvi chairs and glossed them over with some sort of bold color and reupholster them that might be good too
