Q - Hi — My husband and I recently moved into our first condo and we are looking for the perfect king-sized bed. We have fallen in love with the Coconut Bed from CB2, but it is only available in queen. Our budget is around $1,500, but we may be willing to go slightly above if we find something great...
We love the Coconut Bed because it is a totally blank slate. It is modern without looking totally trendy (I mean, we love MCM, but I know we will get sick of it soon). Like the description says, this bed will last a while because we can completely change its surroundings (colors, nightstands, art) and it will still fit in. Also, our ceilings are only 8' high and this bed has the perfect proportions. It is low to the floor, but not so low that it feels like we're sleeping on the ground. And the headboard is also only approximately 40" high, so it will not make the ceilings feel low or crowd the room.
We considered the Wyatt Bed from Room & Board, but it is just too low to the ground. The headboard on the Ella Bed at Room & Board is too high. The headboard options at Crate & Barrel are all too high. We would also consider getting something custom made, but I think that will be too expensive in the NYC area unless you know of any good furniture makers. Any thoughts? Where can we shop? Thanks!!! Valerie

You might want to check out some of the platform beds at charlesprogers.com. They have a showroom right here in NYC.

I just wanted to comment that we had a bed shipped clear to South Dakota from Charles P. Rogers a couple of years ago. I love the bed, the quality is great, and their customer service was outstanding.

I'd save my money for the Presidio bed from WSHome.

Did you check West Elm www.westelm.com? They have similar bed, without the footboard though. Look in Bed Frames, maybe it would work. They ship anywhere in the US.

We have the Tate bed from Crate and Barrel and we love it. The king size is right around 1500.

Hi all, it's Valerie. Thank you for all the input, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by the AT community!
RichardinLA - the bed you found is perfect. Has anyone ever purchased from Lofgren's before? I've never heard of them and just want to make sure the quality is good.

I second the atlantico bed. it's more expensive, but timeless and built to last forever.

Glad I could help, Valerie. I suspect that the bed is actually manufactured by the same people that make the CB2 bed. If you take a look around the Lofgrens site, they seem to carry many of the same styles as Room and Board and CB2. I imagine many of these pieces come from the same manufacturer and each retailer gives the piece its own name and fabric or finish selection.
I have never purchased anything from Lofgrens myself. I found this review on CitySearch. The only serious problem anyone seemed to mention was a long wait time if you order something not in stock. This makes sense as their supplier probably has a minimum order requirement for a shipment. That minimum could be a dollar amount or it could be a unit quantity. In either case, Lofgrens probably can't submit a custom order to that manufacturer until they have enough orders to meet the minimum. If business is slow, I can see that adding significant time to a delivery.
