There are all kinds of tea out there .. chai tea, chai latte, lavender chai.
Let me tell something here - I come from the country of teas. There is nothing called chai tea or chai latte. This is a starbucks marketing gimmick.
"Chai" is a hindi word which means tea. It is made all over the same way. The flavour differs depending on various factors such us temperature, soil, harvesting the tea leves, etc.
America can sell ice to the eskimos and so they are selling chai tea... Tea Tea.!!!!!!!!
Was that a Yogi Berra quote?
Thank you, waves. I'm not Indian and even I knew that! Drives me crazy to go to Starbucks and see them selling "Chai Tea Latte." Tea Tea Milk!
Chai is the word for tea in Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Armenian, etc...
It's not just Starbucks. Even the hippie teas (like Yogi) do that. It seems like a weird thing to get all stressed out over, but maybe you are overly caffeinated? ;)
So, um, why does Chai Tea (latte) taste different than just plain tea with milk?
Because Starbucks add chemicals and artifical flavourings to plain old tea. Traditional tea goes beyond black tea for flavour. Various herbs and flowers are used in addition to tea leaves.
