Snip the turkey. We recieved this comment last week after skgr posted on knives - Nourishment: Arm Yourself! - and agree that a good pair of scissors is a must in the kitchen.
As any surgeon can tell you, a pair of scissors is often handier than a knife for many settings (and safer), including the kitchen. Arista Surgical Supply on Lexington (near 26th) has display bins of good instruments where you can find a good stainless scissors for about $10-12. I frequently buy them as gifts for friends, and they end up using them all the time in the kitchen.
Though it is an odd gift, we like the unusual tip. (Thanks, Doug!) MGR

A word of caution-- in some cultures (Korea, for example), giving knives or scissors as gifts signifies "cutting off" a relationship and can be interpreted as a sign of malice or bad luck.
Arista Surgical Supply has closed its doors on Lexington Avenue and exists no more other than as a subsidiary of a Massachusetts company.
It's a pity because their selection of instruments was unmatched by anywhere I've ever traveled. In a world full of chain stores selling similar merchandise, I'm frustrated when a unique place goes out of business.
My 1st invoice at Arista was on 30 OCT 1975, as an EMT. I purchased my first Littmann Stetoscope, Model 60 ND-0484, on 30 OCT 71; the one with the pearly white hard plastic ear pieces. I have too many gold, blue, blue, blue, and yellow invoices that I kept. But most of all I remember the faces behind the counter. I just learned today, 18 DEC 2005 that you were gone. I really wished I could have seen you again. If I close my eyes... i SEE ALL AROUND YOUR STORE...I SEE ALL OF YOU! My best of luck to you all. Miss You! Christopher J. Griffin MD
