Architect Anne Menke's update to a very common-looking German home from 1957 successfully met her clients requests — "modern AND cosy" — and artfully blended the new addition into an existing neighborhood in Hameln, Germany.
Architect Anne Menke's update to a very common-looking German home from 1957 successfully met her clients requests — "modern AND cosy" — and artfully blended the new addition into an existing neighborhood in Hameln, Germany.
The copper-clad addition wraps around the rear of the simple white cottage and creates a courtyard that becomes the home's center. Though the design is contemporary and minimal — the indoor color scheme relies heavily on black and white — smart details like built in storage, and patterned linoleum make it special.
Anne Menke's design also features a green roof with a rain-collecting cistern, energy efficient windows, and linoleum flooring. You can see more images (including BEFORE the renovation) and architectural drawings at ArchDaily | House + / Anne Menke.

I like the freestanding pedestal basin in the bathroom. Is that plastic? It seems like a fun, inexpensive way to give a bathroom a bit of pep.
