Oi: Modular Sofa in a Box

Shipping Smarts & Style. The Oi Sofa began with the idea of producing an adaptable, functional piece of furniture that was manufactured and shipped as efficiently as possible. Developed by Cocoon, the Oi Sofa has often been described as a "Tetris Sofa"...

The entire Oi unit ships in a 30" cube a third of the space used by a standard sofa.

The arms, seats and backs snap onto the powder-coated metal base in a variety of ways...

The upholstered foam sofa blocks have removable shells available in various colors and textures. In addition to lower shipping costs and decreased environmental impact, the modular components are easy to move and always fit through doorways and tight stairwells.

Pre-order one of the first 100 Oi modular sofas here. Oi costs $2200 plus shipping.

Remember the guy a couple of years back that had the cool green and white (and black?) apartment with the Michelin Man collection? He needs this.

As a concept it is very cool. What is awkward is that most geometric aesthetic furniture strives to appear "light". This puppy looks heavy, chunky, like all the lines are quickly going to go from "sleek" to bumpy etc... There are so many little "leg" forms that they form a forest and do not "float. While I love the concept, this manifestation of function fails the form part of success for me. I'm fussy. I like both form and function combined.

I like - clever idea and functional for small spaces where you can really get creative with your can with it. Plus you can change it around depending on your personal needs.

I'm with Cate - or actually, the inverse of Cate - it looks kinda fun, but I get aches and pains all over just from the thought of sitting on it.

Great idea, but it doesn't look at all ergonomic and, in fact, looks like it would be incredibly uncomfortable.

if it were really comfy and squishy i'd be all over it. our hallway to our apt is 23" wide and sharply curved, almost impossible to find a sofa to fit thru.

It reminds me of an igloo. Cold and square.

However, I am all for the general concept of furniture coming in smaller pieces.
