The landmark price of $100,000 is pretty easily passed up these days when it comes to building a house. That's why we find it so refreshing to come upon the 100K House, a project being developed in downtown Philadelphia. The house is to be built green for only $100,000...
The 100K House will be a "2 bedroom, 1.5 bath house with roughly 1,000 square feet of livable space. It will be two stories and easily built on any infill, urban lot". Who's involved? A developer, an architect, and a builder. We'll be keeping our eye on the project's progress at the blog.
Just a quick note. East Kensington isn't really downtown (aka Center City.) I think they meant that the developers are located downtown. It's also a bit of realtor talk for them to say that EK is just north of Center City. It's 3-4 miles north.
$100,000 in Center City would get you a 300'sq studio.

Regina - Thanks for the post and kind words about our project. It's a tough challenge but we have been getting a lot of encouragement which helps keep us going.
twoeightnine - Just to clarify further, East Kenzo is about 1.9 miles north of Center City or the 3rd subway stop (6 minutes) from Old City. We are much closer to the city than "the Northeast" or any of the surrounding suburbs and included when people reference "the city" just like Bella Vista, South Philly, and University City... Also, our hard construction costs only are $100K. The sales prices will be higher. Thanks
