"We just whipped this garden into shape this spring and summer - but with many hours of hard work! When we moved in the entire space was completely overgrown and attached to all the surrounding yards. We included a before picture so you can see what we were up against."

these dramatic backyard makeovers get my vote every time. love the wheatgrass bathroom, but MAN!
ok, ok, really, the reason you get my vote is that i love your chairs. the red and white ones. my great-grandmother had them in avocado green back in the early 80's, and they've stuck with me ever since.
Looks beautiful
Wow, what a big difference in before and after. I love the color scheme and the chairs remind me of my parents lawn furniture. Good job.
really nice! okay, that's it. after looking at these two entries today from BK i'm going to have to move there. : )
What a neat outdoor living space! You guys put in some really hard work! I absolutely love it! We had the same type of chairs when I was growing up, except ours were green!
Wow ..When's Happy Hour? It looks amazing ..ENJOY!
A great place to watch the world go by...
I love the little lanterns and hanging lights - I'm sure it looks beautiful at night too!
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TRANSFORMATION!
Makes me want to break out the hibachi and hot dogs! Great job! It must look pretty in the evening with the lanterns lit and a few candles on the table.
WOW!!! What a difference just since I was there. You guys really worked your tails off that weekend. Nice job. Very cute. =) Have fun with it.
I like that you've introduced order back into the space but why white landscape rocks? It seems that a dense groundcover would have worked well in this area.
i think there was an article about that here a few weeks ago. these two guys rehabbed their similar backyard/garden (in the very same neighborhood, i believe) and found over the course of a couple of summers that the dense groundcover they chose just couldn't handle the lack of light. i'm guessing Josh & Wendy did their research.
bryan, we chose the white rocks for a couple reasons...there is a large over hanging tree that knocks out most of the sun in that area of the yard...so sunlight would be an issue for most plants and the white rock helps reflect what light that does come through making it a brighter place to hang. Second to be honest, we wanted to keep the maintenance of the yard to a minimum there is no water access in the back yard so the less to water the better...haha...
