The DIY look seems to works well with my somewhat decrepit windows grill, Overall, they afford some distraction from the somewhat busy Amwell Street here near the Angel stop in Islington. I found the Pierre Paulin Chair on ebay here in London, and can spend quite a bit of time gazing out the window, I pull the deadheads and water every other day, and they seem to be thriving. Being homesick for California, its the best I can manage in such a small flat in London.

That red Paulin chair on those wood floors with those white walls and the white dining table and the pops of red from the geraniums - yum! I love it.

I spot an IKEA lamp. Hey, I'm guilty too. Looks great though - just the right splash of color to contrast with the white. Good job.

I ADORE geraniums and you have done a lovely job with the tiny space you have. You have prompted me to run out after work and buy some red geraniums for my front porch...

The planters look anything but DIY from the pictures - very nice!

Geraniums are a very simple and easy to care for choice of plants that seem to have been chosen as much for their 'maintainability'as they were to coordinate with your decor. Great solution all around. A nice bit of inspiration!

While I hate geraniums, I like YOUR geraniums -- they're used so cleverly not just as garden, but as a link between the mod chair and the more traditional setting.

lovely lovely marc. i'm a huge anglophile so i lust for london... to me, it's the best city in the world to live in at least one time in your life. i love islington, too - such a great area. you could have posted a clay pot and i would drool because, i mean honestly, look at that window, the wrought iron, that view, those floors. i bet you have soaring ceilings and you're in a pre war building, too.

it's interested to see you've relocated from the west coast to london. do you care to share what brought you there, are you a native or?

how does london compare to san francisco, in your eyes?

great post, it made my day to see these photos. my 2nd home is in northern germany, where apartments typically look like this, so i always get very homesick when i see rooms like yours - but not depressed, just missing my old apartment back in germany...

I've always loved red geraniums. In this context by coordinating them with your decor they really hit a high note.

I LOVE London, I lived there for a bit, but in Kensington. I hope to live there again someday. I miss Topshop ;-)

Islington is a great area and your place is fantastic. I always enjoy the juxtaposition of modern and traditional. Everything pulls together perfectly.

Lovely shutters.

GOLD!

Perfect color, perfect pots...perfect way to remind me that mine would bloom more if I pulled the deadheads more often!
