The Greenest Thumb! Contest: Olga's Yellow Blossoms

Name: Olga
Location: Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, USA, 5th floor
Size: Fire Escape Size
Favorite Resource: Home Depot and Lowe's

Pitch:

"Nascent beginnings for me, but I am sending it in anyway. Just placed a high maintenance yellow-flowering plant out of my bedroom and onto the fire escape. Now both of us are happier, she can rain down her little yellow blossoms onto the welcoming earth below and get sun across her whole self and now I even see a bee alighting and partaking of a blossom!...." Well, I don't have time to focus on building a little garden on the escape, but it's so much more fun than joint compound.

The view is enjoyed through a piece of art for a window gate, sort of designed by me, sort of started by me but done by a great metal artist.

I buy plants wherever a beautiful one speaks to me, with HD and Lowes being a mainstay and the little shops in the east village being great plant shopping at 11pm.

I realize my lonely plant outside amidst the majestic maples is pretty lame and not a garden, but the venetian plastered green walls inside form a continuous dialogue with the green explosion outside and this makes me very happy.

thanks, Olga

Actually the gate is designed and fabricated by my good friend Linus Coraggio, a fantastic metal sculptor/welder.

When I was over his studio, he showed me how to bend some rods and I made some squiggly shapes. Then I gave him some sketches of what I thought I wanted. And that's what he came up with, incorporating my squiggles into the upper portion. I love it!! Glad you do, too.
