garberlogo.jpgTo hell with design! What you really need is a good hardware store! If you are looking for something that you know a real hardware store should have, Garber's will have it: massive big hooks, roller blinds, chains, electrical components, flashlights, tape, tools, a real straw broom. And not only will they help you, but they're friendly, too...

If you are looking for something a little hard to find, call Garber or check out their website. Go there first. It is worth the trip.

Since I live just down the block, I am at Garber often. They have a great selection and I want to support local businesses, but their prices are so much higher than Home Depot or large hardware stores. If I'm looking for a lot of items, I'll even drive to NJ to shop at a large hardware store.

I live around the corner, and I love Garber. I can't really speak to the prices, since I rarely go to Home Depot -- there is never anyone there available to help you (once I was even told by a clerk that he wouldn't help me).

I appreciate that they can explain what is the best product for your job and how to do it.

The prices are very competitive, at least from my experience. if you are sacrificing quality for price (it seems that is more a priority for you), then you are also sacrificing expertise. Perhaps you don't need as much help as those of us who are less mechanically inclined. I rely on places like Garber's for their unparalleled service and encourage everyone to continue to support local businesses.

I've said it before and I'll say it again (I've even blogged it): Garber Hardware rocks! Nice people, personal attention, better stock than Home Depot, a total understanding of the problems homeowners in the city have and the merchandise they sell, and help delivered with absolutely no condescension.

Go see Nathaniel on a Sunday. He likes visitors.

I agree, Garber is great. I work around the corner and I often stop by to pick up supplies on my way home. If the various friendly employees can't help you, then often another customer will. I've had many guys working on nearby construction sites help figure things out.

I agree they are not as cheap as Home Depot, but considering how much less time I spend finding what I need (and how to use it), it's totally worth it. Plus, local businesses are worth supporting when you can (even if it's not always).
