Happy 50th Birthday to Kartio Glassware!

This the glass of choice in our house. In fact, we're slowing replacing our existing glasses with these. The design is fifty years old this year, yet remains the definition of elegant simplicity...

In 1958, the Kaj Franck designed Kartio glassware line for Iittala went into production. Franck loved geometric forms, which he used as a jumping off point for his designs. Kartio is Finnish for cone and was obviously the inspiration for this line. Instead of ornate decoration, Franck believed in using color to provide visual interest.

You can find Kartio glassware here in New York at Scandinavian Grace and online at Amazon and Ebay.
