Kingfisher: Houseboat on the Nile
The New York Times

14nile_span.jpg Dr. Kent and Susan Weeks live on an iron-hulled dahabiya — a traditional Nile riverboat — when they aren't working on archeological excavations in Egypt. The New York Times shows us the 85-foot boat named Kingfisher that dates from 1898 or 1899, recently renovated and updated with modern conveniences including a bathtub and a washing machine...

The couple has about 900 square feet of living space spread over two levels and they have a crew of two that act as bodygaurds and help with the sails — there is no motor.

Check out the Weeks' story and the interior of their home from The New York Times: A 12-Foot-Wide Home on the Nile and the slide show.
