How Buildings Learn by Stewart Brand

What happens to buildings after they are built? How do they evolve over time?

A few weeks ago, we stumbled upon Stewart Brand's How Buildings Learn, a six-part, three hour, BBC TV series with music by Brian Eno. Lucky for us, Brand seems to have uploaded the entire series on Google video, so you can get the answers to these questions and more...

This video series is sure to get you thinking about architecture in a new way. Stewart Brand is perhaps best known for founding, editing and publishing the Whole Earth catalog from 1968-1972, and has been thinking about architecture, the environment, and technology ever since.

So, if you're looking for something new to download, this just might fit the bill. Our favorite was Part 2. Let us know what you think.

Six Part Series available on Google Video

Part 1 - Flow

Part 2 - The Low Road

Part 3 - Built for Change

Part 4 - Unreal Estate

Part 5 - The Romance of Maintenance

Part 6 - Shearing Layers
