I sat in one of these Panton chairs once at a friend's apartment. I thought it was amazingly comfortable--like the comment above says, it provided great back support. And those curves hug your body perfectly, so there's no slip-sliding. But I thought the coolest way to use them would be as a coffee table, especially if you fit them together in front of the couch and then separated them if you had extra company or a party or something. It's just too bad that I have (1) no extra money; (2) no extra room; and (3) a roommate with an addiction to Pottery Barn. Pity me.

Elena and Michael (last 2 comments)...now THEY know how to appreciate a Verner Panton original!

You got the price wrong. They're being sold for $300. A lot cooler in the shots in the ad itself. I wouldn't display them side by side like that.

So, what kind of decor does this fit into without clashing, psychadelic romper room?

I suppose in some ascetic empty modern loft it might be ok.

I coun't vote b/c of the butterfly ballot-like phrasing. I like the chairs so is it "No" as in "don't put then out of their misery. Or "yes" mas in "they're hot." It can't not be possible to phrase this clearly.

I tried to vote and I think I voted for Al Gore.
It's the hanging chad syndrome all over again!!
(but hot, in the right setting. It's all about context, baby!)

All I can say is
"Inchworm, inchworm
Measuring the marigold
You and your arithmatic
You'll probably go far"

It's a chair, it's a table, it's a bench, it's a chaise, it's seating for 2. It's bloody neat, and not so bad on the butt either. Panton made some cool stuff.

The only hate I have for this design is the seam and the little plug thing on one of the ends. Makes it look more like something from Little Tykes than a classy useful piece of furniture.

I think it needs a nice coat of some kind of textured rubber. It would hide the seam, and give a much more pleasant tactile experience. Plus, your butt wouldn't slide around.

I used to work for a company that "sold" these chairs. By "sold" I mean that we couldn't give the ugly, uncomfortable pieces of p**p away. There are about a couple dozen still in the warehouse with inches of dust on them. Ugly and uncomfortable does not equal good design.

There's something vaguely appealing about them, but they do seem to be extremely unusable, except in a kid's room? The guy on Craigslist has been selling them for months... Coincidence, or?

I have these adorable, versatile chairs in my own home, and I love them! Not only are they fun--you can position them as chairs or tables in many ways--but in several arrangements, they offer great ergonomic back support. (I should know; I'm a teacher of the Alexander Technique!)

Do you find antiques shows to be a good source for antiques and vintage accents for your apartment?

I can only imagine the people who don't like them have never sat in them and think furniture is supposed to look like mum and dad's. These are incredible! You can't argue with the name Panton. I have two in black flanking a very traditional table along with other traditional, yet contempo lines furniture. The pic does them no justice and I wouldn't put two together like that either. They can go in four different positions. I like the upright best. Back and neck support that you rarely get in most chairs. Adam-- if those are still rotting in the warehouse, name a price and I'll come pick them up. Thx! d.
