Is that just a bare mattress? Somehow the pillows look weird with it, to my eye.

I think its just some kind of "bench" cushion. It doesn't look thick enough to be really comfortable to sit or sleep right now. I certainly think it should be re-covered in a different color. I love the pillows though. Nice piece of furniture if I had the right place for it.
