We don't do gadgets, but felt that the design of this very forward new phone (Nokia 7820 - $599) warranted a design review. Forget the price; whaddya think of the visuals? (NOTE: new survey as of Monday morning. Old one got corrupted!)
It's hard for me to tell which end is which. I can picture myself fumbling around with the phone for so long that the caller hangs up. I checked out the link and I see it's really small, which could be cool, but I think it would mostly annoy me. And the visuals don't appeal to me.

If the makers of Minox sub-miniature "spy" cameras are still in business, they may have a strong case for design infringement.

Very art deco. Looks like a lipstick case. I take it there's no keypad so it's all voice dialing? Neat but not my kinda thing.

I'd have to see it in person, but from this picture, one word -
Overdesigned.

it's part of a range of nokia phones aimed at a fashioney / trendy audience. They've been out in Europe for about a year. Sone of them are ok looking, but that's one which looks like it would be really difficult to actually use.

Well, it's great if your phone's undercover. Not so great if you actually have to use the thing.

Not to get all geeky, but...
What's really interesting about this phone is that it's meant to be a secondary phone. Going out clubbing, and don't want to carry around your bulky Treo? Pop your SIM card into this little guy. Your phone book comes with you, and dialing is handled entirely through voice recognition.
So, while I'm not wild about the look of the Nokia 7820, I do hope the concept catches on.

My favorite mobile phone is the "Talby" designed by Marc Newsom for KDDI. Really fantastic design.

this reminds me of times when I've picked some item of clothing off the rack and not understood a)what it was and b)how it got onto my body.
Life's too short to not understand your phone.

OVERDESIGN
Ive played with this phone in person and its retarded that theres no keypad. It's interesting, which is why it called my attention, but maybe for la femme 007 - not for me.
Apparently the designers from Nokia were brought over from Sony?
