Why are you even asking this about a hookah pipe? Is there some back story to this posting or what?

A Hookah pipe... Come on, AT... you can do much better than that.

There's actually a legitimate use for a hookah - I went over to friends' house recently who have spent a great deal of time in Egypt, and we passed around the "shisha" (sp??) or flavored tobacco. It was nice sitting around in a group and smoking though - and I don't smoke cigarettes at all. It doesn't smell as bad as pipe or cigarette smoke.

To have one around and not use it - maybe its the new millenial version of the fondue pot?

BTW, Sahara East in the East Village has them in the back garden.

Interesting. A Hookah Lounge specializing in caramrel-flavored tobacco just opened shop in my small college town. Some people like the idea (we are known for a "quirky" downtown area), some hate it and think it will only bring a "bad element" and most just seem confused. Is the whole hookah the new trend or what...?

Please... a Hookah is just plain, old, rainbow-bear-sticker-Jerry Garcia-groovin' LOW-brow bubbly, smouldering nonsense. There's only so much apple tobacco in the world... Not even a roomful of belly dancers shakin' it to Oum Koulthoum can make this thing cool.

Unless it's in a room with a Zia Priven pendant... Then it's a very HIGH-brow haute interior design object.

what are you talking about patrick, there are sanitation caps that each person has to cover the hookah tip so that you don't spread germs. secondly even though it may be the latest trend, at least it has a cultural background. lastly, don't knock it til you try it. the water at the bottom of the pipe filters out almost all the nicotine and tar. I went to the hospital not to long ago, the dr asked if i smoke, i said only hookah, no cigs or cigars and he said "that doesn't count". i also read that you would have to smoke a hookah for 20 hours straight in order to acculmulate the amount of nicotine and tar that's in 1 cigarette
