Hot or Not: 40 Bond

10-5-40bond1.jpg

Walked passed 40 Bond last night. Holy shit! What a crazy building. It's like NYC graffitti has been frozen in mid flight across the front, forming a fence...

Not entirely completed, there is nevertheless a doorman and (it looks like) some occupants.

Standing in front of the building, marveling at the sheer audacity of creating a building in NYC like this, we couldn't say whether it was awful or beautiful (making it perfect for a Friday survey). We've decided, but won't tell here.

See more of Ian Schrager's project designed by Herzog de Meuron here. (bigger pic below).

Building is beautiful. (The large windows actually open, swinging inward). Graffiti fence is silly.

It cracks me up when Maxwell curses.

Also, this building is hot.

I'm in love with this building, it's so forward-thinking! The video they have on the web site is interesting. Ah! to be ritch and a jet-setter...

i voted not... on the fence or whatever that is.

maybe it looks better in person? my first thought was that it looked like spiderman webbing on LSD.

i'm going to have to see the building in person to decide...

I'm in Italy and I can only see from the photos that I don't like it. I ONCE went to a hair salon that had this sort of graffitti and it was terrible -I left with such a headache. For all those DIYers out there this is how the salon did it:
spray foam filler (the kind from a can) everywhere and then spray paint it silver
Not a good look.

Have walked by this place on several occasions recently and it has grown on me. It's quite fabulous in a very artsy, wild kind of way. Very Brazil.

I don't care for the fence, but the building is beautiful and creative (and I literally hate 99% of new construction with a violent passion, so these are high marks coming from me).

passed this building the other day...not a fan. the glass structure is very impressive but too bulky, and the fencing is too much of a gimmick. i think people will tire of it quickly.

I live a block away and am stunned by the ugliness of the fence. The rest is cool but it is completely ruined by the squiggily yuck around it. It's a bummer because we've been excited about all the construction on that block.

i live a few blocks from this building and avoid passing it whenever i can. fence is more jarring than alluring. and that green construction material they use is cartoonish. oh, dear!

(Forgive me--as an editor I can't help it--don't you mean "walked past" not "walked passed"?)
