Hot or Not? Karim Rashid's Menorahmorph

12-21-rashidhot.jpg

Whoa. The colors of Karim Rashid's Menorahmorph is etched in our brains thanks to recent posts from mod*mom and MoCoLoco. Commissioned by the Jewish Museum to design a modern menorah, we think they got a raw deal. What do you think?

omg, Lori, as I saw this thing (which I refuse to call a menorah) my first thought was "I'm not even Jewish and I'm offended." You beat me to it - word by word!

I'm not even Jewish and I'm offended.

I didn't know Ghostbusters had licensed an ectoplasm menorah.

I think it's awesome, I hope it's made of silicone both for the heat and the malleable form. I'm an atheist so I'm not offended by much of anything ...

yes indeed, checked the link and silicone it is. Now I think it's fabulous!

I'm surprised the Jewish Museum accepted this as a menorah, since it would not actually be considered a menorah by (religious) Jewish standards. Quoted from the page my name links to: "The eight lights must all be at the same height, and should be placed in one straight line, with the shammosh a little higher...The lights should not be arranged with some behind others."

All Jewishness aside, it's not an attractive design. Though I'll give it a bit of credit for being funky colored silicone...

I dunno, I sort of like it. It's not letting me vote, though!

Yuck. It reminds of Nickelodeon Gak.

It makes me think of something you'd see in the original Star Trek.

I agree with fire tweed. This is not a kosher menorah. And it's ugly too :(

I still love his Oh chair though!

Looks to me as if one of those blurps is higher than the other - in the back left. Personally I think it's ugly, but I don't get why anyone would actually be offended, unless they're simply offended by bad design. My own menorah consists of adorable little brass chairs, each of which holds a candle. They're identical, so you just have to place one off to the side ... if you care about these things.

I am not offended by it, but I couldn't use it.
Even though there is one set higher than the rest, it's not possible to light the candles from left to right.

I think if he used the same material and colors but a different shape, it could be very cool.

Karim Rashid period gives my eyes the raw deal.

I'm a fan of most of his work, and I love his home design, but this piece isn't appealing to me. I find the shape and colors a bit '80s, perhaps owned by someone sporting a neon green tee, parachute pants, converse all stars and a members only jacket.

Fools! The Mathmos will devour you all!

I had no idea the Great Tyrant had converted to Judaism.

i think it is (not as a menorah) kind of genius fabulousness (the puddle outline being too symetrical)

JEWY JEWY JEWY MUST HAVE! I HEART THIS! I'm getting one today. I might swap out the candles though. Maybe peppermint stick candles!
