Hot or Not?: Round Bed

12-21-bed2.jpg

12-21-bed.jpgThe Ebay seller of this 1970's Retro Round Bed w/Headboard and Coverlet says it's amazing. Do you agree?

While we could go for the carved wood gilded headboard, the round-shaped bed is a bit of a hangup for us.

If you think it's hot, now's your chance. The $2,000 price tag does not seem astronomical if you're able to make it to Dayton to pick it up..

Do you have to call Hef for new sheets?

in the right room - this could look really hot; but i agree - i'd have concerns about the mattress.

looks like it belongs in a V.C. Andrews made-for-TV miniseries.

yep, me too - can't stop thinking about what might be living in that mattress. it looks like the bed and the mattress form one object. i doubt you can buy a new mattress for this bed.

It looks like a rectangular bed that is holding in a burp. Maybe it is that wacky headboard. Anyways I do like round beads, but not crazy about this one and it may just be because it is grounded by the headboard. And the mattress probably contains who knows what from 30+ years of use.

And for the price I can't stop thinking of all the other really great beds I could buy.

IKEA sells round mattress', although they do not sell round sheets.

speaking as a tall person who just spent a week on a circular bed: round takes getting used to. it feels bigger and smaller all at once, and I hit my head on the headboard more than once in the middle of the night. it's not for me, but the circle IS the perfect form. in any event, fear of a scarcity of round mattresses and sheets should not hold you back. NB: this has come up before on AT. See:

I would only have sex with a man who had pork chop sideburns on this bed. MEOW.

You could get a custom mattress, and The Company Store will do sheets.

I'd love to see P2 design a room with a round bed.

Then do I get to test it with porkchop sideburn man?!? I'm in! (so to speak)

I think this is great! Round mattresses are easy to have made at one of the million places that make mattresses in every city. I would so be all over having sex in this bed (not sure about the sideburns though) I think it would be so great in a very traditional house, although I wonder if it takes up more room? I would be all over the round bed if I had the space

I have had a round bed since 1970 and use king size sheets that you just tuck under the corners --- also I use a king size throw-style cover and let the corners drape on the floor --- looks great and you save the cost of round!

if it is available from someone...can you post it on new york's craigslist?
